Q: iMac (late 2009) doesn't boot (no logo no progress bar)
Hi guys.
A) The issue: boot camp (with Windows 7) was running perfectly for more than 12 months under my iMac (late 2009). OS X: Mountain Lion. But recently, after going into sleep mode, the system didn't wake up again, so I had to shut it down by holding the power button for some seconds. Turning on the iMac, this is what happened:
A1) Startup sound: OK.
A2) HDD sound: OK.
A3) White/grey background shows up, but NEITHER the Apple logo NOR any progress bar shows up. The system just hangs at that white/grey background.
After waiting for more than 10 minutes I pressed the power button and the system shuts down immediately (no holding of power button is required).
B) The steps I went through:
B1) Trying to use all available key combinations on my WINDOWS keyboard, following these instructions: Boot Camp: About keyboards and key assignment for Microsoft Windows. Nothing happens. No Apple logo, no progress bar, nothing. The system freezes again at step A3. I CAN'T use the original iMac wireless keyboard as I remembered that I turned bluetooth OFF months ago in the OS X system.
B2) Replacing both RAM modules (2 x 2 GB). System keeps hanging on step A3.
C) The question: anyone to share some hints or tips on how to solve this issue? Sounds to me a motherboard issue, but I'm not sure. I don't care about the HDD content, as I have several backups.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)
