Sep 9, 2014 12:09 PM in response to tiresandalsby Loner T,I have seen issues when switching from Ethernet to WiFi and reverse where ATV2/3 gets stuck with a specific interface. With ATV3 turned on, if you remove the ethernet cable, do you see the WiFi interface come up?

Sep 9, 2014 2:40 PM in response to Loner Tby tiresandals,I tried plugging into Ethernet and then unplugging a couple of times. Wifi network still wasn't found.
I'll read your link thank you for your help.

Sep 9, 2014 2:45 PM in response to tiresandalsby tiresandals,The support link said I would see a list of networks.... I still don't.
I checked with my laptop again and I see 3 networks - 2 of mine, one at 5ghz N, one at 2.4ghz N, and a neighbors network.
I don't see any of these from my apple TV.
Should I bite the bullet for an apple care extension for $20? Is that just support or would they replace the Apple TV if there is a hardware problem?

Sep 9, 2014 3:58 PM in response to tiresandalsby Loner T,Please see - Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
Another option is to use a MicroUSB-to-USB cable, connect it to iTunes and reset to Factory defaults and try connecting it to WiFi first. You will lose all your settings, if you use this method.

Sep 9, 2014 4:47 PM in response to Loner Tby tiresandals,I had already tried resetting the Apple TV using the Ethernet. I tried the iTunes way aswell using the microUSB cable. BTW, the iTunes way was faster.
Same problems though. It works with Ethernet, but can't see the Wifi.
Thanks for offering another suggestion, but I think we'll need to try something else. Any other ideas?

Sep 25, 2014 10:41 AM in response to tiresandalsby jminhudson,I have the exact same problem here.
Apple TV was connected with Ethernet cable when it lost connection.
Now, after iTunes (micro USB) factory reset, still unable to see wifi, the Wifi option is simply not appearing in settings.
I can however "see" the Apple TV when I look at my Airport Utility, it is listed as a wireless client, it even has an assigned IP address in the range supplied by my router (10.0.1.7)???
Were you able to solve your issue tiresandals?
Any ideas?

Sep 25, 2014 2:10 PM in response to jminhudsonby Loner T,It may be listed in the router due to the lease duration of the DHCP lease. Can you plug-in the ethernet cable and see if that works? If yes, remove the ethernet cable and test if WiFi comes up.

Sep 25, 2014 4:23 PM in response to Loner Tby jminhudson,Thanks for the reply Loner T.
First time on that wifi network, it is actually my friend's ATV... The Airport immediately saw it, assigned an IP address to it, I can even ping it from my mac and it responds on that address.
When I go to the ATV settings (on my Television) It doesn't show the wifi network at all. It stays stuck on a self assigned IP 169.254.xxx.xxx for the Ethernet interface.
Plugging the Ethernet cable in the router doesn't change anything, even after restart or re-initialize?
The ATV worked fine for 2.5 years, it just lost network one day and that's it... Funny that the router can see it though?

Sep 25, 2014 5:23 PM in response to jminhudsonby Loner T,Can you assign a Static IP to the ATV? I have had issues, where making it manual, and then switching it back can cause it to restart the DHCP client, which services both the WiFi and Ethernet interface.

Sep 26, 2014 7:18 AM in response to Loner Tby jminhudson,Hi Loner T,
Thanks for the suggestions, I did that again this morning, giving the ATV manual IP (within my subnet), also configured manually router address (10.0.1.1) and DNS; address was set within ATV but not communicating to the local net, probably the Ethernet interface is toast...
Which would explain why it suddently stopped working (it was originally connected via Ethernet)
I also tried alternating from manual to Automatic as you suggested but didn't do anything either.
I did check the Ethernet port on the router with my Macbook Pro to make sure it was functional...
I guess all I would need to do is to make the ATV switch back to WiFi interface which obviously works since I can ping it but I just can't do this... ATV Bricked on Ethernet...
Any more ideas most welcomed ?

Dec 30, 2014 11:11 AM in response to Loner Tby JonPearceTV,Hi Loner T
I have had a similar problem today with all our mac devices suddenly losing internet connection through my router. The phones and iPads fixed themselves after some restarts and I fixed the MacBooks by "renewing the DHCP lease" in the network settings - but the Apple TV has lost its connection to the internet - by ethernet or wifi - I can airplay to it from the macbook so its on the network but it won't connect to internet…any ideas on how I can renew the DHCP lease on the apple TV?
thanks

Dec 30, 2014 5:28 PM in response to JonPearceTVby Loner T,One suggestion is to manually configure an IP which is unused on your local LAN and a DNS server. You can also use a public DNS server like Google's DNS at 8.8.8.8 directly rather than pointing to your router.
