If the drive seems to not be recognized correctly and you have a good back-up, the next step may be to format and restore from backup.
If possible, back up and reformat the target disk before installing.

Jan 1, 2015 1:27 PM in response to Nubz N.by njboule,Thanks, Nubz. That is exactly what I have done, to reformat the disc and restore my OS lion from my Time machine backup. I first restore to my OS lion version, the state of my computer prior to my upgrade attempt. After I am sure that I have completely revert to my previous computer system, I decided to upgrade my OS again to Yosemite. This time it was a beauty and I am in Yosemite now. Thank you, Nubz, for pointing out my problem and helping out.
