Q: list all-day events in day view on Mac icalendar with Yosemite upgrade

Before I upgraded to Yosemite, I loved that the day view of the iCalendar on the Mac showed all the calendar events (including all-day events) in a list view. Now that I have upgraded, the day view shows in the same format as week view with timed events primarily displayed and all-day events at the top in a small section with a scroll bar.  I use all-day events a lot, and would much prefer the list of events (including all-day events) when looking at the day view!  (It is this way on the iPhone, but no longer on the Mac icalendar.)  How can I get back to this listed events in the day view?? Or if not, is there a way to move down the bar underneath the all-day events section (to show more of the all-day events at a time)? PLEASE? Help??  Thank you in advance!!

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

    Carriebrandon03,

There isn't a way to bring back list view. I too would like to see it returned. If you would like you can leave Apple feedback at the following url: https://www.apple.com/feedback/ical.html

As for All day events only showing one at a time. I don't experience what you do. Mine expands when I add more. I would try repairing your Disk Permissions in Disk Utility.

    Carriebrandon03,

To Repair Disk Permissions, Home Folder Permissions and ACLs in Recovery Mode. Do the Following:

Shutdown your Mac > on reboot hold down the ( Command ) and ( R ) keys.

If prompted > Select the best language suited for you and tap the Arrow in the bottom middle >

On the "OS X Utilities" Window that comes up select Disk Utility and press the Continue Button > Select the indented Hard Drive mine is Macintosh HD > If you have FileVault enabled you may have to unlock the drive, I don't so I'm not 100% sure > Click the "Repair Disk" button, wait until you see "The Volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" It will be green > Click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button wait until you see "Permissions repair complete" > Hit the Red X top left corner to close Disk Utility. > You will see the "OS X Utilities" Window again.

Select Utilities ( Menubar ) > Terminal > In Terminal type:

    resetpassword

The "Reset Password" Window will open behind Terminal > Select your Hard Drive mine is Macintosh HD > On the drop down select your User's name > Click the "Reset" button bottom right > repeat for each user.

    Select  ( Menubar ) > Shutdown

Thank you for the info!  I provided feedback telling Apple I'd love to see the day list view come back!  Also, my all-day events show up to about 5 1/2 at a time, but no more than that (I told you I used the all-day events a lot!).    I think there's probably just a limit on the amount you can show at a time...  Thanks for all your help!  Hopefully they'll bring the list view back.  Also wish they'd list the all-day events in some sort of order (other than random) - like alphabetical order would be helpful - it used to be that way on the phone but not the Mac calendar, and now there's no particular order on either phone or Mac.  I provided feedback asking for this back a long time ago...  Thanks again!

I have the same wish as you - want to make the list of All Day Events longer so it fits a long list.  After 5 1/2, you have to scroll. It's a pain.  Regarding the sort order:  In my experience, the order of all day events matches the arranged order of the calendars themselves as found in the calendar list.  You can click and drag these to arrange as desired.

I'm now realizing that this calendar sort works on my MacBook's iCal.  For iCloud, although the list of calendars are in the same order as on the MacBook, the list of all day events uses some flavor of alphabetical order.

Weird, my all-day events are in no particular order whatsoever.  A long time ago they used to list in alphabetical order (on the phone but not on the icalendar on my Mac), but now no order at all.

Yikes.  not fun.  Full disclosure - I recently deleted nearly all of my calendars and built them again from scratch (not that I'm recommending that you do the same!), so perhaps new calendars are conforming to sort order while older calendars are falling astray (just a guess).  Wish i had more to offer.  My latest nightmare has been about recurring events: Recurring Events for iCal Yosemite

Good luck and Happy New Year!

Just looked at my iPhone - these events are totally in random order as you say.  I had only looked at iClould and MacBook/Yosemite iCal.  Tons of inconsistencies....

Oh yeah, I think I'll pass on creating a new calendar from scratch!  I noticed some trouble trying to delete a single one of a recurring event recently, but fortunately haven't dealt with recurring event issues too much yet.  But thank you for the heads up!!  Good luck to you as well!  It's so hard to keep everything like we want it to work.

Yes.  And I don't get it.  Seems to me these would be simple things that would have been thought of and/or addressed by now...  Have you ever given feedback to Apple?  I have, but nothing I've ever suggested has ever come to fruition.  (Though all in all, I'm much happier with my Mac than I ever was with my PCs.  And I love all the iPhones I had in general.)

Ugh.  I just experienced my first trouble with recurring calendar events that you were referring to!  Tried to move the event, assuming I'd get the "change this event only" option, but it said it will change all of the repeating events.  I copied and pasted the event in the new spot and then went back and deleted the original (which fortunately does give you the option to delete this event only and not just delete all of them).  But what a pain now that it's a 2-step process.  Do you think I should call in and complain about this problem too, or did you get the sense that they really were working on fixing this?  Thanks!

I'm sorry you are having trouble with it.  I would not discourage you from reporting it to Apple to inform them and/or see if they have news regarding the best advice.  I would be very curious if you have better results with managing the calendar change by logging directly into iCloud.
