Q: Yosemite 10.10.1 will not boot regulary

Hello everybody

This is my first request here. I have big problems since I did the 10.10.1 update on my iMac with Yosemite.

The issue is, when I start the machine, it hangs with a gray screen on boot sequence, before the login window comes up. Only in save mode, I can get access to my PC. An other thing is also wrong. In iPhoto, I can't edit pictures by iPhoto. Only a black placeholder instead of the picture appears. With preview I can edit the pictures.

Prior to this issue I had a boot camp partition with Win 8.1 (32 bit) on the HDD. But Win 8.1 would also not boot any more. The Win HDD was grayed out on choosing window.

After that, I was trying several things, I read on the web, but nothing was helpful! I also did a clean installation with only one partition, but nothing changed. I also made a reset for PRAM and the SMC and did a single user start a.s.o., but, the same thing happened as before!

At this moment, I work in save mode with the time machine backup I restored with several restrictions of course. I know, many people has similar problems. I wonder, why Apple does nothing against it!

I'm very thankful, if anybody could give me an idea to resolve my problems! Thanks in advance!

What can I do more then this? I think, the fonts are not the problem.

In the mean time, I did a clone of the Yosemite HDD with SuperDuper an made it bootable. When I boot from this clone, the same thing happens as when I boot from the internal HDD! Only in safe mode I get access to the machine, otherwise it hangs every time in boot sequence!

I hope, there will be some solutions for this bug to resolve it.

Many thanks in advance and Happy New Year!

The graphics processor is failing and would have to be replaced if you want to keep using the machine. Apple will probably decline to service it because of its age. An independent service provider might, or might not, be able to get the part. I doubt that the replacement would be cost-effective.

    Hi Linc

I´m very disappointed about my iMac! But, I take the things as they are.

I have some questions, maybe You can answer these or give me a help to go further.

Is there a possibility to re-activate the following devices in SAFE MODE: AUDIO (micro + speakers), VIDEO (camera) ?

As I see, in SAFE MODE, the onboard graphic device is working well. How can I define it as the default graphic device and the original graphic card (ATI  Radeon HD2600 Pro 256MB) make inactive?

Maybe then I could work as before, without to hang on normal booting. I would be very satisfied.

    Many thanks in advance!
