Nov 23, 2014 6:41 PM in response to mannyvelby Peabarter,I have the same problem with my iPhone 6. I made a Genius Bar appointment and they did a restore and updated to 8.1.1. I got home and resynced to get my music back. It has now repeated locking in landscape with the notes and Safari apps. This never happened with my 4s. I wonder if the thinner phone is causing it. Different materials expand and contract at different rates as they heat up and cool down (coefficient of thermal expansion). This could easily be a thermodynamic issue. I design piston pumps and you can stick a cylindrical steel piston in a cylindrical bronze bore if you don't design in the correct clearance to account for different coefficients of expansion to temperature changes. An iPhone will heat up and cool down as you work it harder and let it idle. I am not convinced that this is a software issue. I will keep tabs on my 4s which I gave to my son. He reports that his 4s has never gotten stuck in landscape mode.
The other annoying problem that crops up is the phone often opens in landscape mode when I wake it from sleep. It will be sitting on a desk and I have to pick it up to get portrait, then put it down on my desk again to view messages.

Nov 27, 2014 8:39 PM in response to mannyvelby xShaney,My iPhone 6 128GB won't rotate at all. I've tried restarting the phone and try rotate again - Don't work. I even tried to lock and then unlock - don't work. I even did a restore and set my phone as new - Don't work, I did a restore and restore from backup - don't work either. NONE of the suggestion I've tired don't even work. I don't think it is software related... it could be hardware issues unless apple can tell us if it is really software issues or if it is hardware issues and that we should get our phone replaced by making an appointment with the genius bar.

Dec 24, 2014 8:52 AM in response to erik Aby msz1,I have the problem, but it does not seem as bad. I can reproduce on demand.
1. open mail or iMessage in landscape mode and wait for screen to lock.
2. Hold phone in portrait position and unlock screen.
3. iMessage/mail is there, but still in landscape.
However, if I just move the phone to landscape mode, and back to portrait mode, it fixes the problem. Or I can just hit the home button to leave the app, then go back into the app, and allis normal…
I wonder if this is a hardware problem… I didn't notice the problem at first, but since I have seen it, it has always happened. I'll get an appointment at the apple store and see what they say… Way to many people having the same problem. I wonder if I can duplicate it on a phone in the store. If not, may be hardware.

Dec 25, 2014 8:06 PM in response to msz1by brunny123,My iPhone 6Plus screen became stuck in landscape mode and wouldn't rotate back to portrait mode, as usual, when I looked directly at it. Tapping the lock button on the screen didn't work. Neither did turning the phone off and turning it back on.
What DID work:
1. On the home screen, tap the Settings icon (which looks like a gear). The tap will take you to a page that says General at the top.
2. On that page, tap Auto-Lock. That tap will take you to a page that says Auto-Lock at the top. Below Auto-Lock you'll see menu that says: "1 Minute," "2 Minutes," 3 Minutes," etc. and also "Never."
3. Tap "Never." A check mark should then appear on the line with Never.
That's all you have to do. This should keep your phone from ever locking in a mode you don't want.

Jan 4, 2015 12:00 PM in response to rerateby BPHart,My wife's iPhone 6 display was refusing to rotate photos, web pages, everything! I finally located the cause of the problem and how to fix it.
Open the Notification Center by swiping up from the bottom of the display screen. Now look for a small icon on right end of the top line. That's the Orientation Lock. Touch the icon and look for "Orientation Lock: Off" to appear. If you see "Orientation Lock: On" then touch the icon once more. Close the Notification Center by dragging it from the top of the screen back to the bottom.
The Orientation Lock is a well-hidden secret. Tell everyone!

Sep 16, 2015 7:45 AM in response to mannyvelby trobUS,Yes. Same problem. Iphone 6 takes a photo in horizontal mode and sometime rotates it in gallery and sometimes not. Worse, when I upload to other systems they sometime recognize the rotation and sometimes not (really not useful for ...well..pretty much anything).
One thing I found is that sometimes when I point the camera straight down and take a photo in horizontal it will not rotate it in my iphone gallery. Other times it will. However most of the time when the phone is held up (the screen perpendicular to the ground) it mostly works fine. Really a big problem that I would love if Apple could address. When I talk to the other companies about this issue (twitter, facebook, wordpress) they point out that it is a known apple bug since and there is nothing they can do unless you rotate it before they get it.
Please fix this
