Q: getting back apps after huge freeze

Hello,

I have an iPod Touch 5Gen, but my problem is universal to other devices using IOS8, so I'm posting here

I have recently switched to ISO8 and I had a major freeze. I had to restore my device and since my device WAS NOT icloud sync because because I only have a 5 GB free plan.... SO...well I lost a lot of data. I'm the only one to blame.

BUT, how can I get back my purchased apps & in apps and other apps that were free at the time and are not anymore ?

Thanks a lot and Happy New Year !

Your problem is NOT universal. Millions of iPods and iPhones have been upgraded to iOS 8 without issues.

Apps can be re-downloaded from the app store at no charge. As for in app purchases, that varies from app to app. Ask the app developers if you can not re-download them.

If you don't have enough iCloud storage to use iCloud backups, then you should be backing it up to your computer on a regular basis.

    Thanks for your post.

Im not telling everybody suffered the same problem. Im just telling Im using the same IOS as others devices.

It is funny because when I go to Setting -Usage-iCloud Manage Storage... I can see I still have data from the "LoginBox Pro" app, but when I go to the AppStore I need to purchase the app again, not only download free.

I have spent $30 in the last month and I CANT download free of charge as you say. Let alone the in app purchases.

You must use the same Apple ID you used to purchase it originally. It sounds like you're signed into iCloud with a different ID than you're using for the app store.

    Thank you Sir,

I havent be able to do it just yet but this will help me for sure.

From "in apps" I have this message. Regrant Failed, Please purchase the software application first.

What I think it could have happened also is the following: When I first bought my device 2 years ago, I used my artistic name for address and information purposes. After I have restored my device this week, I put my real name but I still kept the same icloud username.

If this info can help me get my apps and in apps back.

Another piece of evidence that points to you using two different accounts for iCloud and the app store. You're logging into the app store with the wrong account.

    Hi, thanks for your help...

    I only have one.... xxxx@icloud.com

Is icloud and app store login the same ?

I never had to create another one... my xxxx@icloud.com and password still the same.

No. Your iCloud email address is not what you use to sign in to the app store. You must use a non Apple email address to create the account to begin with. You can use different accounts for iCloud and the iTunes/app stores. That's apparently what you've done and why you're not seeing either your account balance or the apps you've already purchased.

Hello Sir, thanks once again. True ! I have a gmail account where I receive an email of the apps purchased details-transactions. What it is strange is that many other apps purchased I was able to get them in the restore proccess but not them all.

So should I log in with my gmail account ?

It worked ! Thanks a lot Guys ! I used(log in) with my gmail account where I used to receive the emails notifying me my transactions NOT my icloud account.

One question. When I first made the restore/ re-initialization of my iPod I have used my icloud email and then problems started as I have reported here.... My question is: Should I restart another re-initialisation all over since and this time from the beginning using my gmail account?

What do you expect to accomplish? If yo had no iCloud backup that there is nothing to restore

Thank you once again. I was deleting apps and media in order to be able to make a back up under 5 gigs.

Is there a tutorial to back up my ipod completely using my laptop ?

p.s. too bad we cant pay with an itune card and upgrade to 20 gig.
