Q: How do I open attachments sent in an email to my iPhone?

When I receive an email that includes an attachment, I am not able to open the attachment.  I get this message:

Untitled Attachment 00020.jpeg

iPhone 4S, iOS 8, Worked fine before update to 8.0.2

    Hi TTech2,

Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like the iPhone does not display or open attachments? If you click on the img file what does it do? I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

When you say it worked before do you mean that particular image opened before the update? Or did you just receive this image after the update? I'm wondering if its just that particular image thats a problem or all images you now receive since the update. Do you still have image attachments in your older emails prior to the update? If so try opening them and see what happens.

Any attachment I received before my update, I could open and view.

Now,  I can no longer view jpeg's, microsoft word docs, jpeg or any attachments that get emailed to me. My older emails that include attachments, I can open and view.

If its a software issue because of a bad install of the update there are a few things you can do to try and fix it yourself; restart, reset, restore from backup, and restore as new. Doing the first two won't cause any data loss and are the easiest to do. A restore from backup will reinstall the OS but it might reintroduce the glitch if it was caused by corrupt apps or data. A restore as new sets your phone up in a new out of the box condition. I suggest you back your data up to your computer via iTunes before you do anything - just in case. If you are going to do either restore methods do it through iTunes rather than over wifi. If you do the restore to new then test your phone to see if you still have the same issues before you reinstall your apps and data.

    Strange issue.

I have the same issue, but any email sent from my Google account can display the attachment, which is not the case if I'm sending it to an IOS device.

Any idea? It's really frustrating. I can't ask my friends to update their software on Ipads or Iphones - it's ridiculous!

No idea really, as the OP didn't post back if any of it helped or not.

I made some tests with my cousin linving in US. He has an Ipad air. I tried sending him attachments JPG or PNG. In a random way he could sometimes see the attaches, sometimes not. All that happened when sending mails from my Imac native mail.

I also tried to eleiminate the signature in the emails. Same issue...

On the other hand when using gmail, ALL attachments were visible.

So, Apple would have to do some work about...
