Q: Keyboard shortcut problems in iPhone 5S with iOS 8 update

Hey guys, I just updated to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5S and keyboard shortcuts are not working out. All the shortcuts I had saved before disappeared. This happened to me the last time I updated to iOS 7 with an iPhone 4S and I thought that had something to do with my phone being old. Now that it's a new phone they are all gone! Like an hour ago, I entered new shortcuts and now that I'm typing they disappeared too, anyone has the same problem or a possible solution? Thanks!

Others do have the same problem I have.. and Apple Care confirmed it.   You still haven't mentioned the SETTINGS and CRASHING WHEN SHORTCUTS PRESSED.  That's what we'd really like to know. If yours is something other than that, then we are not on the same problem..

If you can create a new shortcut and it works, then it's not the problem we're having..  r

I am having a related problem that is driving me nuts. I have followed this thread in an attempt to sort out the problem but nothing seems to work for me.

Here is a brief history of the problem:

    Environment

iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.1.2

    emoji keyboard installed on iPhone

OSX 10.10.1 on Mac Pro, upgraded from Mavericks in early December.

My iPhone 6 came with iOS 8.0.0 and I have kept it up to date.

I had created a text shortcut (LS in lower case) in iOS7.

I backed up my iPhone 5 and restored it to my iPhone 6 Plus.

I finally upgraded my Mac Pro to Yosemite in early December. and enabled iCloud Drive. Everything worked fine for awhile but now, every time I type lowercase LS, it expands to Leaving soon!. It seems that the problem is with iCloud Drive, which I just disabled on the Mac Pro but not on the iPhone.

Since I use terminal quite a bit, this is causing me a lot of grief because I cannot even list out the contents of a directory. The problem persists in any application in which I type lowercase LS (I even have to type lowercase LS in order to make this post).

This thread is one of the few that a Google search provided that even addressed issues with the text expander for keyboard shortcuts (this is the native application and not Text Expander).

    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks

Confirmed NO FIX IN iOS 8.1.3

Still crashes in settings app and theres no way to delete/edit any shortcuts. This is insanity.

I'm going bonkers because this isn't fixed yet.

I have to remember to type different syntax on my Mac vs. iPad vs. iPhone, depending on what set of keyboard shortcuts each has, and how updated it is.

    SOLVED!!!

Wow, this is a 14 page thread and 5 minutes talking to a Sales person in the Apple Store fixed this.  My keyboard shortcuts synced properly on my iphone but not on my iPad.

    Solution: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

Then, go to: Settings>General>Reset All Settings

There you go...try it out. Your keyboard shortcuts will appear.

Always love when someone shows up and gives the ultimate solution, which has been offered a dozen times already, and is known to either not work at all for most people, or at best only “solve” the issue for a few hours before the problems creep up again.

Thanks but that's been suggested many times and it actually made it worse for me. Clearly you either don't have the same issue we all or do -- or you'll see, it will not last.

My apologies then.  It worked so well when I did and was so excited that I had to share.   Apparently, this is a false alarm.  So far, after 7 hours, everything is there!

TThis Reply is to "Sterling" … and I just wanna say --- that "closing apps" doesNoe always Close the Apps--- I can't even tell you the # of times that I did (exactly as you directed, re: keyboard shortcuts disappearing)

    Double-click the Home button.

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.

Swipe the app up to close it.

When you have done that restart the phone and test the issue again:

only to "restart" the phone and have just as many apps Open! (Sometimes, even more are open-- I guess they're ones previously "closed" … so, any ADVICE on how to REALLY Close-out-Apps…??  This didNOT WORK FOR ME AS WELL, I've had the iPhone Keyboard Shortcuts disappear on me 2x already, after restoring to an iPhone 6 and iOS 8.1.3 --- what's REALLY going on?  How do we reach Apple for a FIX? Is there ANY workAround?  Sorry, this didNOT work for me … (and I once saw an article on) how to 'really' close apps on iPhone -(?)-but can't find where now… so, now, what are we supposed to do here??

HAS Anyone have ANYTHING THAT ACTUALLY WORKED??  ( ps - I've also read conflicting ideas on the "predictive" text --- some say turn-it-Off while others say the opposite . . . omG !!  WatThe----????

PS my keyboard is also doing this>> after hitting "Return" then Uppercase Key ~~~ the FIRST-TWO LETTERS are then capitalized?? Anyone ELSE experience

THis ? <<<(see there?). WoW, I JUST started using the iPhone 6 w/iOS 8 and already hating it! … advice anyone??   Pleeez!!  TIA!

HI! well, good luck w/the "Backup/Restore" … I've done it 2x already and still lost Shortcuts BOTH times --- wat do they expect will happen?   DUH!? OmG

(sorry, can't turn underline off BC copy/select/paste covers it up no matter what I do! )

BYW--now 8.1.3 AND STILL NO "FIX" … pls lemme kno if any-1 has figured this out! TIA!!

Update on shortcut issues... the only solution that is reportedly working is detailed below. This has been used to fix both the reappearing shortcuts issue and/or the keyboard shortcuts crash on iOS.

    (1) On any affected iOS device go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content And Settings

(WARNING this will obviously delete everything so you must be willing to go this far with no guarantee)

    (2) If you also have a Mac(s) proceed to step (3) otherwise skip to step (6)

    (3) On Mac, go to System Preferences > Keyboard >Text Tab and delete ALL the shortcuts you have there.

    (4) Using Terminal app on your Mac, the following command will place a “Real iCloud Drive" folder on your desktop which will allow you to see ALL the hidden items in iCloud Drive:

    ln -s ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/ ~/Desktop/Real\ iCloud\ Drive

    (5) Open this new iCloud Folder alias (you must choose to view it in a Finder window as list view).  Inside this folder is the folder called "Settings" and inside that, "Dictionaries.” Delete the “Dictionaries” folder and empty trash.

    (6) Set up your iOS device(s) as NEW. Meaning, you must manually reinstall any apps, settings, etc. Do NOT restore from iTunes or iCloud backup as that will just leave you with the same corrupted issue. Before going through all the time that takes, start with singing into your device with your Apple/iCloud ID and see if the shortcuts issue seem to be fixed and when you enter new ones they sync between devices and/or Mac.

    - This solution was suggested to me by a developer and it seems to have worked for my iOS shortcuts crashing & syncing debacle. The issues have not reappeared for the last week and all the shortcuts are properly syncing between an iPhone, iPad and 2 Macs. Please don’t get angry with me if you try this and it doesn’t work for you. I’m just sharing an option.

    - I continue to submit feedback to Apple about the issue and have still been having followup calls with AppleCare. They just keep saying “a fix will be in an upcoming iOS software update.” They’ve been saying that to me me since iOS 8.0 and we are now at 8.1.3…

I've tried to do what you suggested, only to konw that, as I upgraded to iCloud Drive, the "Documents and Data" item doesn't exist anymore. So, I did the following:

    1) Went to Settings - iCloud - iCloud Drive (which status was already "on");

    2) Turned it to "off" and immediately to "on" again

    3) A message "Are you sure... bla-bla-bla" appears. Clicked "Cancel";

All shortcuts are back and working.

In short, it looks like to me it's a sync problem with iCloud, or a kind of programming bug.

    I hope this help.

Maybe works for the crashing issue too (I'm using iPhone 5 + iOS 8.2)
