Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are having an issue with Pages not closing as expected. In a situation where an application on your Mac becomes unresponsive, I would suggest forcing that application to quit. Please use the information in the attached article for information on how to complete this process.
OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit - Apple Support

Jan 6, 2015 7:42 AM in response to joe_7399by Bluesdream,Hi, Joe: Thanks for your speedy response. I'm familiar with force quitting, but rarely have I had to use it for Pages before updating to Yosemite and Pages 5.5.1. I think I may have resolved the problem by getting rid of iWork '9. I did so reluctantly because I'm concerned about not having easy access to older Pages files. I would have liked Apple to have given some kind of heads-up about this (as well as about other conflicts and issues related to switching to Yosemite).
Take care,
Anne

Jan 6, 2015 9:37 AM in response to Bluesdreamby PeterBreis0807,How is getting rid of Pages '09 supposed to help you with problems with Pages 5.5.1?
They are separate programs. It is like shooting your cat because your dog pees on the carpet.

Jan 6, 2015 10:53 AM in response to PeterBreis0807by Bluesdream,Well, it would not be the first time that an older program caused a conflict with a newer one, and for whatever reason I no longer have the problem.
BTW, I would never shoot my cat (or any cat).

Really? Can you name the other cases (on a Mac)?

But you would shoot the version of Pages that works instead of the one that doesn't?
