Dec 3, 2014 7:58 AM in response to mariafromfairportby Bobinot,Hi
try this
resolve my printer problem.
with Yosemite, Apple have upgraded CUPS to 2.0, and CUPS work different. So you need to change one think in configuration.
open terminal, and write the following commands:
sudo sh -c 'echo "Sandboxing Relaxed" >> /etc/cups/cups-files.conf'you asked for the password for superuser
sudo launchctl stop org.cups.cupsdafter this check in print queue if the printer is ready and not in pause mode.
The printer now should work, if the printer only print in B&W you need to change the configuration in CUPS web interface.
try http://localhost:631/ ; if you receive a error telling the web interface is disabled, type in terminal services the following
cupsctl WebInterface=yes
after this try again http://localhost:631/
after this choose in the web page "Adding Printers and Classes", bellow the CUPS for Administrators title.
in the new page, choose manage printers; after this choose your printer.
in the page of printer choose from the second combobox the option "set default options";
in the option page, change the color mode from monochrome to color, and save hitting the button "set default option", you be asked for a user and password with admin privileges.
After this your print is ok.

Dec 3, 2014 2:57 PM in response to Bobinotby mariafromfairport,Thanks for answering. In the end we just bought a new printer, so I don't really know if your solution would work but I assume it would have.

Jan 6, 2015 12:14 PM in response to mariafromfairportby barnesed,I'm surprised. I have had no problem printing on my ip8500 before or after Yosemite 10.10.1. I have not made any modifications in order to use the ip8500.

Aug 6, 2016 3:36 PM in response to mariafromfairportby Peter Dromgoole1,When I try to print on my Canon ip 8500 the printer is seen, printer dialogue box opens, but when I print it crashes - no print! - no supported drivers from Canon.
I did load some other printing software recommended on another Appple discussion site where 'gnomen' said
After making this post I decided to use Apple Support which is free for the first 90 days from the purchase of the new iMac. The support advisor directed me to this site:
Where we searched for and installed the appropriate driver. Note that the driver (mcpd-mac-ip5000-10_51_2-ea11.dmg) was neither the one from the Canon website nor the Gutenprint as directed by the OSX printer installation program and other advisors. I can confirm it works perfectly well for all printer functions that I use or have ever used with the iP5000.
I list the site here for any others who have driver problems, since it worked for me.
But this did not work for me and the software I downloaded was file:///Volumes/PrinterDriver_iP8500/PrinterDriver_iP8500_105102.pkg/ - I don't know where it went, but my printing doesn't work with it!

Aug 7, 2016 10:27 AM in response to Peter Dromgoole1by Eric Root,You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.
If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system also Yosemite
