Q: if i update to yosemite, will any of my garageband and i-tunes be affected in any way?

will any of my music stored in garageband and i-tunes be affected if i upgrade to Yosemite.  Also is there another way to have  back up storage for all the tunes (90) in garageband and i-tunes(playlists, etc) in case my mac book pro crashes or gets a virus?  i am a solo player/singer and use the pro with my keyboard.  i have backed up all songs on cd's, but i need another back-up to bring on the gigs in case something happens.  thanks- any help would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), remote control also

    1. Not unless a problem occurs.

    2. Put them on an external drive.

I have been in the music biz on-the-road... you need something rugged - go here > http://store.apple.com/us/accessories/all-accessories/storage and look at the LaCie "Rugged" line (rubbery bumpers all round)

Keyboard USB ports generally may not provide enough power for that type of thing.

You could also check with your local Guitar Center or the like for advice specific to your keyboard. The AppleStore stuff will all likely connect easily to your MBPro and thus be available to your keyboard at showtime.

thanks chitlins. sounds good. like i said i have about 90 tunes on i-tunes, imported them all from my motif 6.  then i just recently traded it in on the new motif fx6 white, and picked up the new roland fa-08.  i bring the pro with me, run it through the fender transport venue, and either one of the keyboards.  but now i just want to bring something more compact and still do the job without bringing the pro with me. thanks again. i'll check out the rugged

Just in case you need to check on the power capabilities:

dood! your new motif fx6 white and new roland fa-08 are top notch WorkStations - USB 3.0 should plug right up.

But the MBP looks so COOL sittin there on top of the amp!! Just run an iTunes light show on it and turn it towards the audience!

Ruggeds should be good to go. I checked a couple of online ProAudio sites that have 'em prominently displayed - anything comparable should be fine too - a TB for ±$150-180 is all you'll ever likely need.

Thanks for the Greenie an Goldie

We'll look for ya on the radio!

That are many questions in one.

Which version of GarageBand are you using? GarageBand 10.0 and GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5 are continuing to work with Yosemite, but I would not guarantee, that you will not encounter a few problems.

The first thing to check would be, if the drivers for your USB keyboard are supported. If they are, fine.

If you do not need to upgrade right now, wait a bit. There may be problems with the CoreAudio in Yosemite.

Which kind of Mac do you have? I am using two MacBook Pro 17", early and late 2011, and two newer iMacs. After the latest Yosemite update none of the Macs can record a clean vocal signal any longer in GarageBand 10.0.3  or Logic Pro X, neither using myMicrophone connected to Line-in nor simply the internal microphone. There is always an added, low frequency buzzing overplayed to the recording.

Other problems reported here have been a huge  latency.
