Remounting also showed the pictures on the phone much faster than the first mounting did.

Jan 7, 2015 10:00 AM in response to jaygee85by cwilms,I am also experiencing this issue when importing photos from my iPhone. What's most interesting is that both duplicates seem to reference the same image file; I tested this by first selecting both images and importing then, the results was 2 identical photos, however if I select and imported only 1 of the images (it doesn't seem to matter whether it's the 1st or 2nd) both instances of the image are gone when the import completes (I delete the photos after import). If the duplicate was actually present on the phone I should still have one of the duplicates remaining. Also as others have stated when looking at the images in my Photos App on my iPhone I only have 1 instance of each image.
My Hardware:

- OSX 10.10.1
- iPhoto 9.6
iPhone 5S
- iOS 8.1.2
- Setting: My Photo Stream is OFF in settings
- Setting: Keep Normal Photo is also OFF

Feb 9, 2015 3:22 PM in response to cwilmsby PADiscJockey,So...at one point, I had triplicate. After reading this thread, I saw the "unmount" suggestion...tried that. First, there was a comment that said "...then remount". When I right click the device in iPhoto, I see the option for "unmount" (which is what I did) but I don't see an option that allows me to select "remount". Can anyone help with this?
By the way, after choosing unmount the first time, I then shut down iPhoto and then restarted the program, and am now down to only duplicates...and yes, if you are wondering, I tried the unmount from there again hoping it may get rid of the duplicate...no joy!

Feb 9, 2015 3:46 PM in response to PADiscJockeyby PADiscJockey,UPDATE
So, I decided to completely shut down and reboot. The exact steps (I had left my iPhone connected from earlier) I shut down my MBP; once completely shut down...disconnected iPhone; restarted MBP; opened iPhoto; reconnected iPhone. Not sure how important it is but I made ABSOLUTELY SURE each one of these steps were completely done "doing their thing" before I moved onto the next step.

Feb 9, 2015 7:33 PM in response to PADiscJockeyby marnixva,After you do an "unmount", unplug your iPhone's USB connector from your Mac. Then to "remount", just plug your iPhone's USB connector back in to your Mac. There is undoubtedly a way to do it via the command line without unplugging and plugging back in, but this way works.

Feb 23, 2015 8:03 PM in response to marnixvaby ric_lewis,I can confirm that right-clicking on the iPhone in iPhoto and Unmounting solved the duplicate issue!
Fingers crossed it stays that way – I've had duplicate photos for months now, even after having the iPhone replaced with a brand new device by Apple under warranty.
iPhone 6+ iOS 8.1.3
iPhoto 9.6
OS X 10.10.2

Feb 24, 2015 10:37 AM in response to jaygee85by celomb,I was able to solve it by doing the following:
iPhone: restart, hard reset (home + lock button)
This did not yet solve my problem
iPhone
- Settings > iCloud > Photos: turn off iCloud Photo Library, My Photo Stream, Upload Burst Photos
- Settings > Photos & Camera: same as above. Should already be off but double check.
This did not yet solve my problem
iPhoto:
- iPhoto > Preferences > iCloud: uncheck My Photo Stream
This solved my problem!!
I put the rest of the steps that I took in case it had something to do with the otheres also (still) being turned off. This is a one time fix, and it seems like others have temporarily solved it, only to have it reappear. So, there you have it!
My Hardware:
2009 Mac Pro
- OSX 10.10.2
- iPhoto 9.6
- Setting: My Photo Stream is OFF in settings
iPhone 6
- iOS 8.1.3
- Setting: My Photo Stream is OFF in settings
- Setting: Keep Normal Photo is also OFF
I will probably reenable all of My Photo Stream on both my MBP and iPhone 6 after I import.
Here's to hoping this gets resolved in iOS 8.2!

Mar 17, 2015 2:15 AM in response to jaygee85by Lams13,The reason why this occurs to you is that you have Photo Stream turned on on your iPhone. It means that each photo you take with you iPhone is also added to the Photo Stream album on the iPhone. That's why when you plug your iPhone to your computer, the iPhoto wants to import all the photos, including the ones from the Photo Stream album. That's the reason you see duplicates. If you want to remove all the duplicates from your iPhoto, you can download a free app for Mac called Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto. If you don't want to see the duplicates in the first place, simply turn off My Photo Stream on your iPhone. You can do that in Setting under Photos & Camera. I hope that solves your issue.

Mar 17, 2015 2:38 AM in response to Lams13by Neil McGillivray,I'm experiencing the same problem - on the iPad/iPhone pictures are as they should be - however iPhoto shows duplicates/doubles.
It seemed to be fixed with iOS 8.1, it's back with iOS 8.2 - I have photo stream disabled, I chose not to enable it.
