Q: iPhone 6 crashes when setting up new email account

I've been trying to set up a new email account on my iPhone 6 but everytime I get to the end of plugging in the correct information, the setup crashes and sends me back to home screen.

    Howdy Stewball1957,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

To start off troubleshooting this issue where your Mail setup is quitting unexpectedly, I'd like you to go ahead and first force close all of the apps currently running on the device, and then reset it by following the steps in the articles below.

iOS: Force an app to close

Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

    Take care,

    Alex H.

Thanks Alex but those actions were among the first steps I took to resolve the problem.  I recently upgraded iOS and that's when the problem started.  It's an Apple problem in that it won't let any iphone 6 add my account.  i have tried on several iphone 6 phones belonging to other people and my IT tech at work tried on his and his, too, crashes.  I'm trying to set up an IMAP or POP account in "Other".  Very frustrating.

Incidentally,  I forgot to mention that the problem was not solved with your suggested articles.

    Hi Stewball1957,

What other troubleshooting has been done?  Have you restored the iPhone back to factory settings and then tried to set up the email account again?

Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

    Cheers,

    Alex H.

It did not work.  And, it doesnt work on other iphone6 factory resets either.  I mean other people's phones who were kind enough to try it with me on their phones.  What's up?

    Hi Stewball1957,

Since the issue persists even after restoring to the factory settings, then you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action

    Take care,

I have the same problem with one specific account: after answering to the question if I want to proceed without SSL setting (that is my case), the settings app crashes every time. I have tried on Ipad, same problem. The same account is correctly created with other email app for Iphone and Ipad, as it is on my Macbook Pro. The problem is only with Iphone or Ipad IOS8 settings. Please let me know if you have found any fixing. The solutions suggested by Alex have had no success. And I do not find any mention about settings app crashing in other Apple support articles.

    Thanks for your help.

    Ciao

    Mauro

I had the same problem as well, but finally was able to solve it.

After answering yes to the question if I want to proceed without SSL setting, the settings app crashed every time. If I intentionally entered my username wrong, it tells me my username or password are incorrect. That lead me to believe it is connecting to the mail server and authenticating when it crashes.

I managed to fix it by answering no to the question if I want to proceed without SSL setting and saving the configuration settings. I then was able to edit the advanced settings and correct them. Seems it was trying to use the wrong port numbers.

I have 4s. I Had a different cause of my mail app crash (sending mail with multiple attachments) but the same effect. Mail app is not working anymore. I tried all kind of reset. Soft, hard, dfu and ios update to 8.1.3. But still not working. So i'm trying to restore from pc backup but i cannot deactivate find my iPhone in icloud even if icloud password is correct. So now i think the re is no otheR solution. What else can i do?
