It sounds like you have been through a lot of the troubleshooting mentioned in this article, but please see if there's anything missed that you can try.

For example, when you say you've tried a reset or reboot, does that mean a restore to factory settings?

And it is the Ipod. So using Itunes to reset it a no go. I need away to set to factory without itunes
