Q: Unable to update or download anything?

the past couple weeks, everytime i try to uodate or download anything it says "sign in to update your payment method" so I sign in, and it says"there is a billing problem with a previous purchase. please update your paymeby method." I used to have the 'none' option selected, but would occasionally use a MasterCard gift card to pay for things if I didnt have any iTunes money left. Now, there is no 'none' option and my MasterCard gift card no longer is "accepted" as a payment method. However, last time I purchased something, it worked fine and there was enought money on the card to pay for it.

This is really frustrating as I have not been able to update or download. *also, I am not putting a real credit card onto my account, and I don't have an iTunes card right now, so is there any way at all to fix this?? It was bizarre because it just happened out of the blue.

Thanks

The 'problem with  a previous purchase' message implies that iTunes wasn't able to collect the payment for your last purchase and that you therefore owe iTunes for it - if that is the case then you won't be able to download anything else (including redownloading and app updates) until what is owed is paid off, you will either need to redeem an iTunes gift card or put a valid credit card on your account

I checked my MasterCard goft card and it says that there is still 71 cents left on it. I looked through my settings and apple id but could not find anything that said how much I owed apple, if even if I owed them.

Pre-paid cards tend not to be accepted by the iTunes store, a card needs to be registered to the same name and address as on your iTunes card - which prepaid cards won't be.

For what you owe, you might be able to see how much it is from your purchase history : Pay an unpaid balance in the iTunes Store.
