Q: Apple TV won't wake up mac after Yosemite update

Hi all,

Yesterday, I upgraded to Yosemite and to iTunes 12.0.1.26. I have a mac mini (late 2012), an Airport Extreme Time Capsule (latest model), and an Apple TV 3 (A1469). I upgraded my Apple TV to the latest software version when iOS 8 came out.

When my computer was running Mavericks, Apple TV would see my library even when my computer was asleep, and would wake it up. After upgrading to Yosemite and the new iTunes, after my computer and the Apple TV go to sleep, the Apple TV can no longer wake up my mac. Sometimes it will remember it has seen the library and simply would not connect. Other times, it would just ask me to turn on home sharing on my computer... When my mac is awake, home sharing works fine.

This is a very annoying problem, and I suspect it is related to iTunes, and not to my Apple TV. I should mention that my iPad and iPhone are experiencing the same -- they see the shared library when the mac is awake, and do not see it when it is asleep.

I have tried to turn off home sharing on all my devices, to wait, and to turn it on again. I tried resetting the PRAM on my mac. I reinstalled the Apple TV software. I restarted all my devices. Nothing worked.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Do you have a solution, or is this a bug (that will hopefully be fixed soon).

Thanks!

Mac mini (Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

I am having the problem of not being able to wake up my late 2008 MBPro with 10.10.1 installed. What's weird is that until last week I couldn't get it to go to sleep, I believed because it had an external USB drive attached. Now it sleeps but will not respond to requests for screen sharing from my other mac or to magic packets.

It also will not reliably share the drive over smb to the windows computer, but that's another issue I guess.

I was FINALLY able to make it work by consulting this article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201960 (About Wake on Demand and Bonjour Sleep Proxy)

    It covers:

    1. Identify which network port is compatible with Wake on Demand on you machine

    2. Prioritize your local Wi-Fi network to make Wake on Demand possible

Since I'm using Ethernet, I also made it my preferred network port in the "gear menu", under "Network" in the System Preferences.

    Hope this helps.
