Q: Hidden Library Folder in Target Disc Mode?

I know that this question has been asked before but after searching I haven't been able to come up with a successful solution to my problem.

I have an unbootable MBP (Maverics) which I have managed to get into Target Disc Mode so that I can transfer files over to my MBA. I have managed to get most files (iTunes, iPhoto, etc) but there are a few files in my "hidden" library folder on the MBP that I can't seem to access. I have tried the command through Terminal (chflags nohidden ~/Library/) which didn't make any difference. I am able to see two folders named "Library" (User-Mac HD-Library OR User-Mac HD-System-Library) but they seem to be a generic folders that don't contain any of the files that I am looking for. I know the files are there because before the MBP became unbootable I was able to (Open Finder - GO - option key - reveal Library - access files) there were many more files in there than there is available in the Library folders that I am able to open. Any suggestions as to how I can find the files that I am looking for? Thank you in advance...

Open your home folder, choose Go to Folder from the Finder’s Go menu, and provide exactly Library as the path. This isn’t the same as choosing Library from the Go menu.

    chflags nohidden ~/Library/

That unhide your bootable volume's user's Library, not the one in TDM. Try

chflags nohidden /Volumes/"name of TDM volume w/quotes"/Users/"username w/quotes"/Library/)

For example, if that volume's name is Macintosh HD and the user's name is freddy one, then the command would be:

    chflags nohidden /Volumes/"Macintosh HD"/Users/"freddy one"/Library/

Sorry for the delayed response, I haven't had a moment to sit down over the holidays. I tried both suggestions but I still can't seem to find the Library folder that I'm looking for. Any other suggestions?

Choose Utilities from the Finder’s Go menu, open the AppleScript Editor, paste the text below exactly as it's written into it, and run the script:

    tell application "Finder" to quit

do shell script "chflags nohidden " & quoted form of POSIX path of (choose folder with invisibles)

    delay 2

    tell application "Finder" to run

    Hi Niel,

I have the same issue of dylanfulton currently.

I just input the script text as you noted above and ran the script. But what should I do then?

A choose folder box just popped up - it actuallly took me to a folder containing the Microsoft User Data location folder.

I navigated to the main disk of my MBP which is having the issues and chose the user location where the library is contained. It then had a script error and I had to quit to get Finder back. Seeing as dylanfulton got this to work, I fear I did something wrong/different in unhiding my necessary Library folder.

Can you please help me out specifically?

    Many thanks.

If it unhid the library, nothing else needs to be done. If it didn't, post back with the text of the error.

Hey, thanks for the prompt reply.

Nothing happened unfortunately on the drive I have under Target Disk Mode. I ran the script and a "choose a folder" box came up. Is that supposed to happen?

This is the error I got:

"usage: chflags [-fhv] [-R [H|-L|-P]] flags file..." number 1

For context, I am trying to move my work Mail folder from my non-loading MBP (early 2012) to my home MBP so to transfer to another comp when I get a new one next week. All other files are backed up. Only Mail and the hidden library folder on Yosemite is the issue currently.

    Cheers again. Marc

    1. The choose folder dialog is supposed to appear.

    2. There needs to be a space following 'nohidden' in the script.

    Ok, thanks. Amending now.

What folder am I supposed to choose though?

The work MBP very slow to respond, load folders etc.

    Something's up.

Script worked (thanks). Kept it running. Chose the user folder on the work MBP. Opened it, there was no library folder there yet.

I hit enter. 119089 came up in Script editor result box. Still no Library folder.

Opened up Finder and navigated to my user folder on work MBP. No Library folder visible.

I think there's something that I've missed or my work MBP has a major issue.

    Baffling. ?

Ok, I tried the applescript. It worked for me and I found the hidden MAIL folders in Yosemite. The Yosemite Drive was viewed on a 10.6.8 machine in Target Mode. How can I now copy this information/folders? Besides taking screenshots.
