How on Earth would we know? We don't work for Apple and know nothing more than you and what Apple has publicly announced.
As far as a "smooth transition of document", I really don't know what that means, but cloud based apps such as Dropbox and Google drive sync my stuff just fine.
I would love to be able to chat with family member with a different brand of phone
Then use Skype, WhatsApp, or simple text messaging.
Apple should make at list the iMessage app available to others for wider market and profitability to all.
Then tell them, not us. http://www.apple.com/feedback

Jan 10, 2015 3:38 PM in response to ojsmanby Drew Reece,It doesn't seem likely that iMessage will ever be made available to other OS's…
Steve Jobs said that FaceTime would be made an 'open standard' when he announced it in 2010 - that still hasn't happened (possibly because of patent issues).

Apple doesn't care about other OS's, you can see it in their history - they only make apps for other OS's when they can use it to sell hardware (iTunes on Windows sells iPods & iOS devices). Apple never made any software for Linux or Android.
If you really want solutions that work across other OS's don't use Apple software, find third party apps instead. What's app, Threema, Skype, Hangouts, Viber…
Many apps know how you talk to other OS's. Apple users need to stick to their own echo chamber of other users.
