I assume you plan to try to use this printer as a WiFi printer on the same network as your Mac (and disconnect it from the Mac's USB port).

Network Printer Troubleshooting
Ping printer: If you have the printers IP address open Terminal (Applications/Utilities) and at the prompt type: ping {printerIP}. You will get a reply or failure.
WiFi Printer to WiFi Network - Connect
If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.

Jan 26, 2015 9:40 AM in response to Eric Rootby KF1,Update: I am now repairing disk permissions on a regular basis which seems to keep the printer working wirelessly.
Don't know why I should have to do that and so am hoping that a future Yosemite update will correct that.
