Q: I have files that are not accessible now, sine Yosemite upgrade, how do I gain access?

I recently upgraded to Yosemite.  I also updated my iPhoto, so I could access photos in iPhoto. However, I now am unable to open my pictures, documents, movies, or music on the hard drive, getting the "no permission" warning. How to I adjust this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.1.x)

Reset User Permissions and ACLs in Lion/Mountain Lion

    Boot to the Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

From the Utilities menu select Terminal. At the Terminal prompt enter: resetpassword. Press RETURN. When the window opens select your startup drive where it says "Select the volume containing the user account:" At the bottom of the window you will see, "Reset Home folder permissions and ACLs." Click on the Reset button.

Thanks much,  the first option you suggested seemed to do the trick. Wasn't sure I did it correctly, but after my desktop came back up, I am no longer locked out  of the files.  Thanks for the help, glad my Mac took me out of "time out"
