Q: eezdownloads.com pop-up disables Safari browser

I tried to open kinekt.com in Safari and was forwarded to eezdownloads.com.  The screen is blank except for a pop-up message: The last website you visited has infected your Mac with a virus. Press OK to begin the repair process.

I cannot close the tab, open a new tab, or open any other tabs I had opened at the time this happened.

All my Safari options are greyed out...delete history, Safari preferences, etc.

I can quit Safari no problem.

However, holding shift when I restart does nothing...Safari still opens with the eezdownloads Virus pop-up.  All my options remain greyed out...delete history, Safari preferences, etc.

I have tried quitting Safari, rebooting my computer and holding down the shift key to reopen Safari...pop up is still there // sigh.

Any ideas?

I am emailing you from Firefox while freaking out about this.

Thank you!

Check the links below for options to remove the Adware.

    The Easy, safe, effective method:

    http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

If you are comfortable doing manual file removals use the somewhat more difficult method:

I used the adware medic and 30 seconds and a reboot later, my computer is back to normal.  Thank you so much!

Thank you very much, Dominic.  This was the method I had been using, except I did not know about the WiFi step.  In my case, the WiFi was not on at all, but I am sure this info will help the next person who has to deal with this.

Hello, Stedman, and how are things?  Can you help me on more time with malicous pop-ups?

My firefox is working fine, which is how I'm contacting you.  I normally work in Safari.

In Safari, I clicked on an image in google images and it opened a site called appsom1.com/safe/v1-464769?dp=5006&sub_id=00014941p018859047442.  There is a popup window that says WARNING!  Please Install Update To Continue.

I have Adware Medic on my computer because I just had a similar issue a week ago.  That's when you supplied the adware medic answer.

This time, though, adware medic shows a clean computer.  Force closing the app, running AM, restarting the computer, restarting Safari while holding down the shift key…none of it works.  My Safari preferences, history, etc. are all greyed out.

I went to the links you provided and ran through all the diagnostics at http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987.  I don't  have Genioe, Install Mac or any of those things on my computer.

What I have is that every time I open Safari, now, I see the same appsom site / pop-up, with my preferences, history, etc. greyed out.

    What do you think?

P.S.  Just so you know, I use google images all day long for my job, and never click on anything weird...just images of artwork, graphic design, stock vector files, etc.

    Thank you,

    Ameline

O.K., now Safari decided to open good as new.  Thank you, and...

    Onward!
