Q: Using iTunes with no computer?

Hi folks

I will be selling my Mac to go travelling for a couple of years.  Does this mean I won't be able to access my iTunes account or does someone know a work around?  Will I even be able to play my bought content on my iphone or ipad?

Please could someone confirm if I have interpreted this correctly?

Many thanks

By "iTunes" I presume you mean the iTunes Store and not iTunes itself which is an application that only runs on a computer?  If so, yes, you can use your devices If you have access to wi-fi it will be easier and you can make purchases, etc.  If you subscribe to iTunes Match you can even have continued access to your main library as if you were syncing to your computer.  It will be stored in iCloud and available through wi-fi.  Sometimes Match + iClud features is suggested for people who have a computer too old to sync with a newer device.

I should note that technically you are not allowed to use the iTunes Store outside your country of residence.  It is in the terms of agreement.  While some people get away with it, it is possible Apple could pick up on it and block you from certain places.

    Thanks Limnos

I won't actually have a country of residence for a couple of years so that will be interesting!

Anyway, I think I may set up Match + iCloud, but I was actually referring to the iTunes App - in particular the ability to edit my music (e.g. add, delete music, create playlists etc).  Can I only do this on the App via a PC?   (if only there was a web based version, I could log on anywhere!).

You can delete media directly from the device.  You can add music purchased from the iTunes Store by directly downloading to the device.  You can add music from other sources if you first set up Match to store the music in iCloud.  I don't have a device so I don't know about other things. I know people come here and ask about transferring a playlist they made on their device to their computer so I imagine that it is possible to create playlists directly on a device.

As far as Apple is concerned it is the country for which you have a valid form of iTunes Store payment that is your country of residence and to which your account is tied.

The iTunes application only runs on computers.  While it is considered to be the primary way of managing your device there are other ways, it just isn't as convenient nor as complete.
