well, maybe I spoke too soon.  For some reason, I was able to print one item...but a PDF will not.  When I went to add the printer, it appeared as normal, without hpjis or foomatic as a part of the printer name....

Not sure what that means, but thought I'd give additional feedback

    thanks again for you attempt

I just set up my HP Officejet 6600 and I am too having problems printing from my son's MacBook Air. However everything works fine with my Windows Vista laptop. I've tried everything listed in this blog, nothing has worked. When I tried the 3-step download, the 6600 didn't have an option with the new file extension.  Wondering if there's an update coming that would include the 6600?  Thanks for any help!!

I use a MacBook Air and it does the same thing. What I have found is one printer was labeled as "OfficeJet 6600" which works for my Macbook wirelessly, then the other is labeled "HP OfficeJet  6600" and all of my windows product use that one. I just switch the choices when prompted to print. Hope this helps.
