Jan 17, 2015 8:02 AM in response to The hatterby Ryan0751,LOL, yes. I have posts in both of them.
This display bootup issue isn't specific to the Dell monitor from what I gather. It's a general issue with 4K displays on the Mac.

Jan 17, 2015 9:08 PM in response to Ryan0751by EdAnuff,This happens because the EFI rom firmware in the Mac Pro doesn't know how to drive a 4K SST monitor. A future firmware update will very likely fix this problem. However, Apple typically only does one firmware release a year. One workaround is to hookup to the HDMI port to the monitor in addition to the displayport cable. When you want to start up Filevault, switch the monitor's input menu to select HDMI. Otherwise, switch it back to select displayport.

Jan 18, 2015 4:31 AM in response to EdAnuffby Ryan0751,Ahh ok, that does make sense.
I couldn't figure out why the EFI couldn't just sync at a lower resolution (which the monitor supports), but if it doesn't support SST, that makes sense.

Jan 18, 2015 11:31 AM in response to Ryan0751by EdAnuff, there just weren't any 60hz 4K SST monitors when the EFI was released. It seems like an obvious thing to plan for, but for whatever reason they didn't code for it. As I said, I'd be very surprised if they don't support it in the next EFI update
