Jan 14, 2015 7:00 AM in response to Demoby Veedubbayou,Yes, Demo I can download from iStore fine. I did try signing out, shutting down iPad, re logging in but still no change. I guess I'll have to eventually do a reset. I need to do some research to see if there are any issues with the Four Score app backups first. I use this iPad in lieu of books to display music and I have a huge investment in getting that loaded and set up properly. Something I don't want to do again.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Jan 15, 2015 8:56 AM in response to Veedubbayouby nigel169,Did you ever get this fixed? I have the exact same problem with an iPad Air. Woke up yesterday morning and Messages and FaceTime were deactivated. When I went to turn them on there is no on/off button, just the sign in. When I sign in it says there was an error try again. I have tried everything including restoring from backup and even setting up as a new iPad. Like you I did all the usual things first but nothing worked. Tearing my hair out. Messages and FaceTime both work fine on my Mac and iPhone

Jan 15, 2015 11:43 AM in response to nigel169by Veedubbayou,No I haven't got it resolved. I haven't tried the complete restore but I thought that would fix it. You're saying even that didn't help yours?

Jan 15, 2015 1:51 PM in response to Veedubbayouby nigel169,No it didn't and what surprised me the most was that setting my iPad up as a new one made no difference, the problem was the same. I can only assume there is some issue with the servers at Apple in some way. It isn't my account because Messages works fine on both my iPhone and Mac, it's just my iPad and it happened overnight. I'm going to leave it a day or so in case they have had some problem and if it still isn't fixed I guess I'll have to try and speak to Apple directly in some way. When I first did a reset, I was able to get past the login screen, which then showed me the email addresses and phone number I could use for messaging but then it went straight back to the login screen again. Never had something so difficult but I'm pretty sure now that it has to be a problem at Apple as it shows that if I bought a new iPad and used my present Apple ID it still wouldn't work and that can't be OK.

Jan 15, 2015 2:01 PM in response to nigel169by Veedubbayou,Well shoots, I don't want to reset my iPad if it's not going to help.
This has been going on for a couple of weeks now on mine so it doesn't seem as if Apple is resolving the issue. I don't know how to go about talking to Apple directly either. The only support link I found wanted me to pay before I could even ask a question. Please post here if you find a resolution.

Jan 15, 2015 3:55 PM in response to Veedubbayouby Mr. Arganis,I just changed my Apple ID password today and now I'm having the same problem. I had no trouble on my iPhone or my Macbook, but the iPad will no longer accept my password. It keeps telling me an error occurred. Try again.
I did a restore.
Didn't work.
I did a full factory reset.
Didn't work.
What now?!!?!?

Jan 16, 2015 3:50 PM in response to Veedubbayouby nigel169,I've been trying again to fix this problem again today. Turned off Messages and FaceTime on both my Mac and my iPhone and restarted both. Restarted my iPad, went to settings>Messages and found it still stuck on the login screen. It should have an on/off toggle and other stuff but no it was just my Apple ID already filled in with the password blank. Put in my password and it actually moved on to another screen showing my contact numbers and emails which were all ticked. It then flicked back to the login screen before I could tap NEXT. So I did it all again and was ready to tap it as soon as it appeared. It then said verifying but then I get the usual 'an error has occurred'. It seems to be a bit hit and miss whether you can get to the verifying screen. Sometimes I can after a restart but mostly not. None of this helps but just updating you.

Jan 17, 2015 10:39 AM in response to Veedubbayouby bmb4051,I have been having this same problem for over a week. I just got it fixed today. I tried all the recommended fixes including restoring the ipad completely and that did not work. I also did not have the option to turn iMessages off/on. It just kept saying sign in and every time I signed in I got the error message. I tried reset all settings before and it did not work, but I just tried it again, and now iMessage is working. I went settings>general>reset all settings. When reset was done, instead of touching the iMessage app which had a red exclamation point on it, I went settings>messages and I now had the on/off button back and I was able to sign in to iMessage and send texts. Hope you find a resolution soon as I know how frustrating it is.

Jan 17, 2015 2:20 PM in response to bmb4051by Veedubbayou,Worked for me too bmb4051. I just did Reset All Settings, which I tried earlier this week with no change. Now I'm back in both iMessage and Facetime!
Thanks!

Jan 18, 2015 8:25 AM in response to Veedubbayouby nigel169,Glad to hear that worked for you guys, it gives me hope. No luck here despite several complete restores. Tried the reset several times last night but still nothing. Wiped my iPad and set it up with my wife's ID but even using her details Messages and FaceTime still had an activation error. Had an old iPad here which I am going to sell, so set that up as new and it worked fine with my Apple ID. From that I assume that it is my specific iPad that is causing the problem rather than my Apple ID. Whether its hardware or software though is hard to know. Probably software as I think a full restore doesn't actually wipe the core apps as it happens too quickly. Perhaps this is an issue which Apple are working through hence the reason it's taken so long for it to work for you despite earlier resets. Who knows, hope it works for me soon.

Jan 18, 2015 9:20 AM in response to Veedubbayouby Demo,While I haven't been responding, I have been following this discussion since I post a few days ago. I am very happy to hear that you finally got this resolved and you did so by using one of the very first suggestions by Diavonex when you first posted. Sometimes suggestions/tips don't work when you first try them and then for reasons unknown, the same suggestions will suddenly solve the problem. Weird stuff, IMO.
Another reason why I wanted to respond, is that I have seen more than a few discussions going on about not being able to activate FaceTime and Messages in the past couple of weeks. The number of discussions for this problem has been unusually high based on my experience here in the Using iPad forum. I don't know if there is any relevance at all in this, but it just seems really odd to me to read about so many people having this problem over the past couple of weeks.
Now if Nigel could just get it working again .....

Jan 18, 2015 9:38 AM in response to Demoby Veedubbayou,I agree Demo with your post. It is frustrating though that since an earlier suggested remedy eventually worked, that the problem is apparently with Apple. It would be a lot less aggravating if Apple could keep the user community advised instead of just letting us pull our hair out if they realize they have an issue. How hard would it be for some corporate person to monitor, these threads and just say, hang on we're working on it.

Jan 18, 2015 9:55 AM in response to Veedubbayouby nigel169,That is so true Veedubbayou. I wonder how many hours are wasted by people trying to sort out problems which are not of their making. A premium price should mean a premium service rather than the £25 I will have to pay if I want to speak to an Apple advisor on the phone.

Jan 24, 2015 5:12 AM in response to Veedubbayouby Cam-Fox22,I spoke to a senior advisor this afternoon and I was told it's a known issue and they are currently working on it. He told me it could take up to a couple of weeks to resolve. We will all have to sit tight and wait I'm afraid
