Q: Logic Pro Instrument Not Found

When i open a project in Logic Pro 9 on my new macbook pro, I get a message that says, " EXS24 instrument "Sunburst Electric.exs" not found." I've clicked on File > Download Additional Content, and I've re-downloaded everything, and they are currently listed as "Installed." I still get this error message though. During the re-download of additional content, there were many times where the download would simply not work, but after restarting Logic Pro each time (maybe 7 times), the content would finally download.

I've also clicked on GarageBand > Download More Sounds... and this did not help the situation with Logic Pro.

How do I make Logic Pro 9 find the Sunburst Electric Instrument?

By the way, I found "Sunburst Electric.exs" in an old GarageBand backup. What should I do to include it in Logic Pro 9 on this computer?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

    Howdy Alias7,

It sounds like you're unable to get this instrument to be recognized no matter what you do. I recommend that you use these steps from the Logic Pro troubleshooting article, found here:

Logic Pro 8 and 9: Troubleshooting basics

Start Logic with a different project template

Sometimes project files can become damaged, causing unexpected behavior in Logic. If you use a template, damage to the template can cause unexpected results with any project subsequently created from it. To create a completely fresh project choose File > New and select Empty Project in the template selector window. Test to see if the issue is resolved in the new project. Sometimes, issues with the data in a project can be repaired. Open an affected project and choose Options > Project Information from the main menu. Click the "Reorganize Memory" button.

    Delete the User Preferences

You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro back to its original settings. This will not impact your song files. To reset your Logic Pro user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

    1. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
    2. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    3. Press the Go button.
    4. Remove the com.apple.logic.pro.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
    5. If you have upgraded from Logic Pro 7, you may also need to remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.

    Reinstall Logic Pro

Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Logic Pro. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application, then install Logic Pro and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Logic Pro. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Logic Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs handy before starting this.

On Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard or OS X Lion:

    1. Open the Applications folder. Drag the Logic Pro application to the Trash.
    2. Insert your Logic Pro installation disc and install Logic Pro.
    3. When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to update your software to the latest version.

If you installed Logic Pro from the Mac App Store:

    1. Delete the Logic Pro application from /Applications on your hard drive.
    2. Open the App Store application and re-download Logic Pro from from the Mac App Store.

For further information on settings or installation, please refer to the Logic Pro documentation available on your installation discs or from the Help menu.
