Q: is it possible to upgrade the memory (ram) of 2014 21.5 inch iMac

Hello,

 

Is is possible to upgrade the memory (ram) of 2014 21.5 inch iMac letter?

 

I want to buy, but I need to know, should I able to change the ram of that iMac?

 

Or it should be upgraded at purchase time?

 

Please help me as early as possible.

    Not in the 21.5 inch model. The 27.5 inch model does have memory slots. If you buy the smaller one then make your choice at time of purchase.

    @Arloga500 But it's NOT a late 2013, it's a mid-2014 the original poster is asking about, so the answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT!

     

    The 8GB RAM in the 2014 21.5" 1.4Ghz Core I5 iMac is soldered in place and can NEVER be upgraded.

    I don't know if there is an Apple system differences between countries but in mine, YES it is possible, RAm memories are not soldered to the mother board, in fact I have 2 Apples certified and authorized service centers who offer me the upgrade service (quite expensive). I have been investigateing and it a total YES, it is possible but maybe yours is soldered mine is not. Late 2013 IMac 21.5" want to see videos ??

    If you want to check the right RAM memoryfoar a Late 2013 21.5" iMac visit crucial.com or corsair.com  the best to brands ( I know) to fit Apple's specs.

    Go to http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/memory-info  and check if your Mac letter can be upgraded. Also check corsair.com in Mac memory

    This is a 2014 iMac model, whether the RAM can be replaced by the user or by Apple or by an Aurhorised Apple repair center, itself, is irrelavent.

    If the OP still has the one free year of AppleCare or has purchased the extended 2 years of AppleCare, any breaking into the iMac's case WILL void such warranties, plus, Apple, itself, will refuse to do anymore service to the OP's IMac and, I believe, this applies to any future service if the iMac is ever broke into by the user as any iMac model has NO USER SERVICEABLE parts inside.

    You are, potentially, telling the OP to void their Apple warranty.

    Do what you want to your own IMac. That is your decision.

    Don't advise others to do the same and, potentially, have their iMac refused for any type future servicing.

    No.

    It is not.

    You must choose the amount of added memory to the 21 inch screen iMacs at the time of purchase.

    So, to future proof your iMac purchase, it maybe best to order a 21 inch screen iMac model with the full 16 GBs of RAM as you won't be able to upgrade the RAM later.

    Also, as part of your iMac purchase, budget to purchase extended AppleCare as this will give your iMac 3 years of warranty repair coverage.

    Wow !! What an answer !

     

    No body is saying to avoid any warranty, the question it's quite simple "is it possible to upgrade the memory (ram) of 2014 21.5 inch iMac" the answer is also quite simple YES, we are no messing points here, one thing it's warranty that it wouldn't be avoided if the upgrade is done by an Apple uthorized service center, other if you can order your iMac with more ram from the time you make your purchase and other is it is possible or not to upgrade the iMac depending if is in warranty or not, so since I have no more warranty nor Apple care, yes, I will do what I want with my iMac, after all is mine isn't it.<g> End of the discussion.

    It seems a bit silly to throw my own response into the mix when the correct info has already been given (no memory upgrade possible on 21.5-inch Mid 2014 iMac), and then others jumped in with incorrect information stating that the 21.5-inch Mid 2014 iMac is upgradeable which just created confusion. Hopefully this information from the Apple support site will help clarify.

     

    The chart below clearly shows that the 21.5-inch Mid 2014 iMac has no memory slots where a memory upgrade could be installed whether you are a customer, service technician, or magician. I personally opened my 21.5-inch Mid 2014 iMac and can confirm that it has no slots for memory. The earlier 21.5-inch iMac models had slots, but depending on the model they may or may not be considered customer upgradeable memory slots. The 27-inch iMac's have always had user upgradeable memory slots.

    Disassembling the 21.5" iMac as shown in the videos you link to will void the warranty.

     

    Yes its technically possible to add more Ram, but its risky. As has been said, its best if you budget for the Mac amount of Ram at the time of purchase.

     

    If you try the Upgrade suggested by the videos and anything goes wrong, Apple will not touch the iMac.

     

    Conversely, the 27 inch iMac has a directly accessible rear panel that you can remove to access the RAM slots. So no Warranty Voiding there.

    Sorry I was terrebly confused and  messed up the posts because I posted an question about my iMac late 2013 regarding also the RAM upgrading and also I was wrongly told that a 2014 21.5" iMac has the same 2 memory slots to be replaced "easily" just sliding them in the slots. Sorry.
