Q: Since IOS 8 Update Unable to receive Yahoo mail

After updating iPhone to IOS 8, I can't get Yahoo mail account to work.

Having searched posts of others with similar problem, I have tried suggested fixes.  I have deleted and added this mail account numerous times, powering off and restarting phone each time.  I've checked settings.  I've reconnected to iTunes to sync.

After 2 days of effort, I am finally able to send emails from Yahoo account, but am still unable to receive emails.  Instead, the inbox is empty and the notification bar shows:

"Checking for Mail" changes to "Updated Just Now" for a split second then reverts to "Checking for Mail" and continues in never-ending loop with no mail 'delivered'.

Resources below, given to many others having similar problems, have not resolved the problem.

IOS: Troubleshooting Mail and

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3899

The only way I've been able to access Yahoo mail account is by downloading their App.  I'd rather have all mail available through Apple Mail system as it was before updating to IOS 8.0.2.

I'm having the exact same problem on iPad since upgrade to IOS 8.

Any help appreciated.

I Have the same problem, my yahoo mail is not updating, starts then reverts back to a previous date, example 1-2 months before.  I have reset, rebooted my ipad, deleted  Mail account, re-installed same, deleted wifi account, all no help.  I have tried all solutions suggested.  I prefer my Mail to come thru Apple, the way it was before updating?

    please help.....

    rogardr or others

I decided to add the Yahoo email app but am at the point where it requires that I receive a Code via message in order to activate. I don't use messaging other than sending from iPad, not phone. I gave my cellphone number but account doesn't include messaging.

Please, can anyone help me out of this quagmire that started with Apple IOS 8? A phone number I might call?

    Thank you

    Linda,

you apparently have Yahoo's two-step login verification activated.  You need to log into yahoo from a web browser and change your settings appropriately.  See

    rogardr,

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm now having different problem which must be resolved before I can try your recommendation. Yesterday I was first on Chat with Apple Support (they dropped Chat) then on Chat again and then on phone. Against better judgement I deleted my iPad ATT email account and added back. Nothing changed. Tried again after Network Reset (?) and at that time I had lost my wifi connection. When able to connect again, I was able to sign on to wifi with my Mac book but iPad refused my password, which I had used just about 1/2 hour prior; over and over. Now I have to figure out what to do...a Profile reset was proposed, but I'm afraid it may also affect my Mac, as they sync. Have never done Profile reset, or whatever is proper term.

This is just a summary, but am so disillusioned about all this. However, for whatever reason this morning all my emails had returned to Inbox on Mac and obviously don't know if they are lurking in iPad as no wifi! Seems very coincidental that the emails returned the day after I spent couple hours on "Support" site.

I'd welcome your thoughts but don't expect you to understand all I've been doing with such bare bones explanation!

    Thanks again, Linda

Yes mine is working now after spending time 4 hours with Apple support, deleting my yahoo account numerous times, re-installing same thru other options  and also using yahoo.  This update added several new mail boxes+jumbled all the mail boxes, my personal included.  Tried to correct thru log in on laptop, but did not solve the problems.  I just kept removing my yahoo account and re-installing same.  It is up-dating also and additional mailboxes are gone and in order I prefer.  Apple needs to understand that their updates affect all Apple products (ipad & macs) differently.  This was apparent as I have (2) IPads, ipad 3 & iPad Air.  The old saying " if it is not broke don't fix it" applies.

    Happy New Year to all!!

Adding account manually using POP finally fixed this for me - nothing else...nothing else...worked.

Got my email all back. Maybe losing a little functionality, but it's all back and working now.

    Hope this helps you too.

Wonder if Yahoo changed some IMAP server settings and isn't telling anyone?   :/

Yahoo mail stopped updating for me as well on Monday (Jan 19) so it's been almost a week now.

There were no updates during that time to the best of my knowledge.

(I'm using the native Mail app on an iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1.1)

Update: iOS 8.1.2 didn't solve the issue for me.

I tried changing my account name to my eMail addr, and also tried deleting / re-creating the account.

    No joy.

My work-around is to use Safari in iOS to access mail.yahoo.com

Ironically, it suggests I should be using the mail app.  Very funny.

    And tonight it started working.

Must be something I did earlier, but took a few hours for it to take effect.

My Yahoo mail hasn't downloaded any new messages since Sunday.  I have tried all of the suggested workarounds and all that has happened is that the account is now empty on the iPhone. I can send messages but none will download & there is just the tag at the bottom of the screen advising that the account was last updated on Sunday.

The email account is working fine in Safari.

Hey all. It seems the only solution is that it corrects itself. Mine took 8 days to correct itself and it did so without explanation. There's no fix and there was no use in wasting all the time trying to find a fix. Apple help certainly didn't know and neither did Verizon (or presumably whatever your provider is). Just be patient, and I bet it will come back alive.

As I responded little while back, my email re-appeared out of nowhere after no inmail for weeks...a month? Anyway this problem should not have occurred to begin with and makes me leery of buying any more Apple products due to their lack of response to so many requests for help...disgusting!

    Best of luck.

ADD: This is from my Jan 11 post on different string (?)

"This afternoon, after no working Yahoo email on iPad 2, IOS 8.1.2, it suddenly appeared! I have working Inbox, and my personal folders that had been emptied out are now back. The last mail update, before this "miracle" was 12/27/2014.

IM subscribing to this thread as i have the same exact problem.

IVe been able to fix it by deleting and re-adding the acount.

Very annoying! The problem started for me about a week ago. I was already on iOS 8.1.2 so i dont think the problem was related to an update.

I read in another thread that an Apple tech said its a yahoo problem. I dont believe this to be so as the yahoo mail app works fine.

BTW apple really needs to update the mail app as theres some missing features that can be really useful. For example, a button to mark an email as spam. The yahoo app has this feature. So when i get spam in my inbox or good mail in my spam, I have to use the yahoo app to mark the email accordingly.

APple are u reading any of these comments? I sure hope so!

FUnny that Apple is such a huge company and they cant even acknowledge major issues, like this one, exist.

THere was a bug on craigslist the other day and people started posting about it in the forums. Craigslist staff took note of it, acknowledged it and said they were working on a fix. Less than 24hrs later the issue was fixed! What do u know! Now THATS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
