Q: why doesnt my cam work after updating

I have recently updated my Mac book pro to the OX Yosemite 10.10.1 and now find for some reason any software that requires my web cam such as Skype does not find my cam. Is this a common occurrence and does anyone know how to rectify my problem please.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Have you tried using Photo Booth or FaceTime?

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support

Had the same problem but reset the SMC as shown in the above link and it started working fine again
