I haven't seen that issue but it sounds like what is described in this article.
If the wrong date or time is displayed in some apps on your Mac - Apple Support
When the date and time format is set incorrectly, it might still look correct in the analog clock and calendar displayed in the Date & Time pane of System Preferences, but you might see the wrong date or time in places like these:
- The Date Modified, Date Created, or Last Opened values of files displayed in the Finder
- The dates of messages in Mail
- Dates or times displayed in Calendar
- Other apps that display dates or times.
It further goes into steps to resolve it.
To determine if you are seeing incorrect dates or times because of a custom date or time format use these steps:
OS X Yosemite and Mavericks
- Open System Preferences.
- From the View menu, choose Language & Region.
- Click the Advanced button.
- Click the Dates tab.
- Click the Restore Defaults button.
- Click the Times tab.
- Click the Restore Defaults button.
- Click OK.
- Quit the app where you were seeing incorrect dates or times displayed.
- Open the app again, and verify that the dates and times are now displayed correctly.
Take care,
Nubz

Oct 22, 2015 3:42 PM in response to Nubz N.by arphaar,This describes my problem perfectly but the troubleshooting steps did not help. I already had all the defaults in place. I deleted some of them and clicked "Restore defaults" but it didn't do anything. Any other thoughts?
