Oct 16, 2014 2:12 PM in response to josht111by HowieC34,Another "LIVID" user here. I have over 100 gigs of music and my main folder is YEARS worth of carefully ripped, named and cataloged MP3s.
I never had one issue until I started trying to put music in my iPad several years ago. At one point, I "let" itunes "keep my music organized" which completely redid my file system. Several other times, whole CD's have been deleted. (I don't use AVG). I have had at least 5 times that itunes delete all the music off my ipad, only it really didn't because all the memory was used but not tunes showed up. Multiple other issues, and several times spent HOURS rebuilding the library, or hours and hours reloading it to ipad.
So last week I had tones of old stuff in my recycle bin and I emptied it for the first time in months. Now I notice today, that song #1 is missing from every album I've checked. Several of them are missing song #2 as well, but ALL of them are missing the first song. In my primary music folder there are over 700 ripped CDs of MY music. And EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM (sorry for yelling, but I can't punch somebody!) is gone. Every album starts with the second song. This means why whole catalog of music is ruined now and every single CD has to be redone to add the first song back in.
Last week was the last time my whole music catalog got wiped off the ipad and I was fuming at the prospect of once again spending hours redoing it. But this.... this is FAR worse. I already put an iPod and a iPad Mini Retina on my Christmas list for this year. Not only are both coming off, but I'll never buy another product from Apple as long as I live. The almighty "we are better" thing is cool if everything IS better but this software has sucked completely in every version on an otherwise perfectly running and clean Windows 7 machine. It even deleted a just recorded original song I did myself and it wasn't backed up yet since it was just completed!
Delete music off my ipad and hours spent rebuilding it = a waste of my time. Deleting it off my hard drive, when some of it is lost, some CD's sold, or from no longer playable CDs...That music is lost for good! . COMPLETELY INTOLERABLE! I'm out.

Or better still, open your own thread instead of ranting in a two year old thread. Have you not updated iTunes in TWO YEARS? Sounds like time you check your software updates!!!!!
Cheers

Dec 21, 2014 10:36 PM in response to petermac87by janther,This just happened to me as well. I've spent hours this week adding a bunch of music to my new iphone 6 and bam - all deleted.
I know this isn't this place to say how awful itunes is as a program, but it really is. (keeping 2 of the same song on my phone even though 1 has been deleted, sorting artists incorrectly, artwork not showing up even though I've added it correctly, etc, etc, etc.) The weird part is, the music is still taking up space on my phone (says itunes!), so that's great. I love wasting 15 gb's on nothing. For the biggest company in the world to have such horrible software is crazy. I'm not sure how anyone, even the biggest Apple nerd can defend it.

Perhaps because very very few are seeing it. Try starting your own thread. This one is over two years old and about an earlier version of iTunes.

Dec 21, 2014 11:46 PM in response to petermac87by janther,I must have a really unlucky circle of friends.
Also, I didn't think I should make a new thread since the last reply was from just 2 months ago, but I guess I'll take your advice.

Jan 1, 2015 9:33 PM in response to elvenqueen86by tumblr.hipster,Itunes with the update decided to delete all music that wasn't transfered from the itunes store or a actual cd. They are trying to reduce the illegal downloading that has became so popular lately.

This is simply untrue and you are just posting FUD.

So why is my library fine with lots of non-CD and non-iTunes purchased music?

No, Apple is not "policing" iTunes libraries..

Jan 22, 2015 3:52 AM in response to elvenqueen86by ksbelle,I did some digging and I found something that at least helped me. I tried a few things I found in this forum, but they were not working. Luckly I only have an IPod Classic so was not a too big getting things restored for us. Still lost probably about $100 in music. Anyways, hubby will still be ****** but what can you do. Apple is not going to help us get any of this back so I will just be adding to I IPod when it is a song that I really like that I have paid for from Google or Amazon. I didn't want to go on a rant, but they deleted my post where I was ranting on a new thread.
So here is what I found. Hope maybe this helps someone.

Why not simply restore from your backup or redownload or reRIP from the CDs?
