Q: Why overtime have I lost some songs purchased on iTunes?

I had some songs from a few years ago that were in my library but not now? Do songs from iTunes expire?

Songs don't expire, if you had them downloaded into your iTunes library then they should still be there unless you'd deleted them. If you mean that they are no longer showing in the cloud for redownloading/streaming then any item (music track, album, film etc) could be removed from the store by the rights-holder at any time, in which case they would no longer show in the cloud (and if you move countries they will also no longer show in the cloud) - in which case do you have a copy of them on your backup of your downloads/library ? You could also check to see if you've hidden them from the cloud : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases.
