Q: Where is my sampler instrument ?

I used Logic 7 for ages. Now I´m using Logic X.

I tried open one of my Logic 7 songs and the box `... exs. file could not be found.´

The whole song is alright except the exs24 shows ´missing ...´ inst.

I tried to go through my old and new folders again and again.

Came to the conclusion that it must be because the sample was from the Logic7 factory samples...

YES - I have downloaded all the additional content in X.

Does the term ´Legacy´ in sampler inst. means ´older´ ?

In that case the legacy from Logic 7 is not anywhere.

How do I get these instruments back ? - I have more songs that need help with this problem

Is the old factory sounds available for download somewhere?

thanks a bunch!

It means various components from LP9.....

What EXS samples are you missing?

Use FindAnyFile to locate them on your system

    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

...and then post up their locations here...

Thank you for the fast reply

I tried finding it with the program with no succes.

    I have 3 exs samples I can´t find..

Do you know if they were in the factory samples with Logic 7?

    1) Orchester FX

    2) Mini Pulse a Poly

    3) Brass section

I found someone else talking about jam-packs in here

(Logic Pro 9/Garage Band - Only two Jam Packs will install!)

And ´my´ orchester fx is mentioned with this:

    ./Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/12 Legacy Instruments/09 Effects/Sound Effects:

    7404 - Orchester FX.exs

But have no idea what to make of it...seems I need jam-pack no12?

would be nice if someone did

There is no Jam pack No12...

The Mini Pulse A Poly Lead sound is found in EXS24's dropdown menu

    Mini Pulse A Poly.png

Make sure you have turned on all the advanced tools in LPX's prefs > Advanced Tools...

Then create a software instrument track with the Open Library option unchecked

    New SI with Library open.png

Now load an instance of ESX24 using the Instrument button in the Track strip

    Instrument Button.png

and navigate to the EXS Preset as shown in the first screenshot

Note: Corrected Screenshot now included for Mini Pulse A Poly!

What a great help with awesome pictures...I want to do that too

I did what you said above. Seems ALOT more sounds is now available.

But sad to admit I can´t find what I´m looking for.

I dont have a Factory folder in my Exs24 menu in LPX.

But I have a EXS factory Samples folder in Logic installation folder - all like my menu ik EXS24 in Logic.

(Can my problem be that I did NOT upgrade Logic from version 9? - I used 7 many years and when I got this new mac I just bought X)

Do you have all 3 sounds I´m looking for in your menu...?

    Yes....

So.. Go to the Download Additional Content window in Logic Pro X and check you have indeed downloaded everything under the legacy section..

It should then look like this...

    All Legacy Downloads.png

They should all have Installed to the right of them....

Use the disclosure triangles to reveal all the sub parts.... as shown in my screenshot..

Thanks being there..! - this means a lot to me

I checked the downloads - it looks the same as your screenshot - even the sizes of each package.

Everything is installed. I also tried ´select all uninstalled´ and nothing is selected.

The very first thing I did when Logic was installed was to download the whole thing.

I guess it´s not that easy

    - What options do I have left?

Would you recommend a complete re-install ? or is there any magic-trick I can try?

No.. Installing again rarely fixes anything... (Though it may come down to that later..)

Next step is to re-index Spotlight

Spotlight and it's indices are the means by which Apple Apps know where every file is stored...

From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.

    1. Click Spotlight.
    2. Click the Privacy tab.
    3. Drag the system volume (your hard drive) to the list.
    4. If prompted for confirmation, click OK.
    5. Remove the volume you just added to the list by clicking it and then clicking the minus ("-") button.
    6. Close Spotlight preferences.

Spotlight will re-index the contents of the volume.

Note: This can take some time to complete so be patient.  You can check on it's progress by using the Spotlight icon (the magnifying glass) in the top righthand corner of your desktop screen

    One sec..

I tried finding it with the program with no success.

I missed this... So you are saying that FindAnyFile couldn't locate the file named Mini Pulse A Poly.exs anywhere on your system drive?

I re-index´ed my HD with spotlight. I restarted my computer.

Still no changes when trying to open a song with a missing sample.

Still no changes in Exs24 menu.

No results with FindAnyFile search ´name´+´contains´ for the following:

    Mini Pulse a Poly.exs

    Mini pulse a Poly

    12 Legacy Instruments

    Orchester fx

BUT when searching for ´brass section´ it finds two.

One for the ES2 so it can't be what I´m looking for and the other I can't figure out...seems like it is a part of GarageBand.

    Screen Shot 2015-01-25 at 01.59.11.png

    Screen Shot 2015-01-25 at 01.59.20.png

But to be honest - beside the three samples I know I´m missing - I´m not sure what I am looking for

Do I miss whole packages of sound?

The fact they are not present in your system suggests to me me this might be related to the fact you went straight from LP7 to LPX

I suspect it works because most people go from LP9 to LPX and something during the upgrade process, misses those files out...

What I find interesting/confusing about your situation is... you had those files installed at some point but now they cannot be found anywhere on your system.. which is odd as... as far as I believe...  Logic doesn't delete any such files during install.... Move yes/maybe but delete no...

Not sure how you are going to fix this issue as you are missing at least one entire folder structure that came with prior versions of Logic.

Maybe someone like Edgar or CCT might have some suggestions as file structures etc.. are somewhat more their field than mine

    ...sorry, had to sleep

I never had LP7 on this computer.

I used a G5 with LP7 for years. It became old and I bought this new MacMini and bought LPX from iTunes. I did not upgrade.

Maybe everybody else have this problem but dont see it because they dont know they are missing anything.

Could it be if you upgrade to LPX from earlier versions these samples stick with you

    - and if you buy LPX without upgrade they are simply not there in the package?

You know anybody you could ask who didn't upgrade if they have the same samples as you?

    - thanks again
