Q: Mid 2011 iMac '27 shutting down and starting up with vertical green lines

Hi,

I'm getting a bit worried now as my iMac started to behave in a strange way yesterday.

I was running Logic Pro X as usual and the screen went completely black after some weird green glitches on the screen (took about 2 seconds).

I rebooted my Mac using the power button because I could not do anything at all to recover from the "blackout".

When my mac rebooted it started as usual with a chime, but on the loading screen with the Apple-logo, three vertical green lines appeared onto it. This is where I got a bit worried that something broke. After a while the screen went to grey, and stayed like that for an hour until i decided to just turn the iMac off.

I left the computer off for a couple of hours and when I started it again everything went back to normal.

Later that day I was watching a movie trailer on a website when the screen went completely black again, and the audio stuttered in a loop until i decided to shut it down again. Same error occured and I repeated the procedure.. shutting off.. rebooting, getting weird lines, shutting it off for a while.

Now I'm writing this on my iMac the next morning... so it is working again. (for now).

Should I be really worried this is happening???

This computer has been running smoothly without any problems until now. This is main computer and I feel kind of frustrated paying a lot of money for this computer, being really careful with it due to the cost of it and still my old MacBook is running after over 4 years careless usage. Being in a financial tough situation right now, this is really making my situation worse if I need to go and repair it...?

I hope someone can give me some knowledge about this problem.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
