Q: Logic Remote Sees My Computer but Won't Connect

Hello,

I've tried connecting the Logic Remote app on my iPad mini (v1.2) to Logic Pro X (v10.1) on my iMac and it refuses to connect. The logic remote app shows the option to select my computer but yet it won't actually connect. I've tried on both wifi and bluetooth.

I tried deleting the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file and restarting the computer...but that didn't work. I reinstalled the logic remote and restarted my iPad and that also didn't work. I am not running a firewall on my computer or router, so there should be no issue there.

Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

Late 2009 iMac

10.9.4 Mavericks

Logic Pro X 10.1

iPad Mini

iOS 8.1.2

I should also note that I had TouchOSC installed on my previous installation of Logic Pro 9, but I uninstalled and deleted (and emptied trash) any related to TouchOSC.

In Logic's CS screen... the only thing you see there is Logic Remote?

If not then again trash the Main LPX prefs and CS Prefs in exactly this way...

    Delete the user preferences

You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

    1. Quit Logic Pro
    2. In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
    3. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    4. Press the Go button.
    5. Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
    6. If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
    7. Restart the computer.

In Logic, the remote doesn't even show up at all as a control surface. The option to choose my computer/logic shows up on my iPad but when you click it, it never connects.

I tried deleting the user preferences as instructed above and that had no effect.

Thats why its not working... It should show up under the CS Setup window Logic Remote add to cs setup screen.png

    To fix...

Quit, (not close) Logic Remote on iPad

    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/28/quit-apps-in-ios-7/

Go to menu item Logic Pro X >Control Surfaces > Setup

Now click on the New button at the top of this window... and choose Install

Now click on the Logic Remote entry in the next window and  press Add button at bottom Right corner

    Launch Logic Remote on iPad

It seems as if we are getting closer. I added the logic control surface and now the connect icon on my iPad is spinning instead of telling me it can't connect.

Unfortunately its been about 3 minutes of spinning.

*scratch that, it says it can't connect again

    In this exact order...

Remove Logic Remote Entry from CS Setup Screen

Quit (not close) Logic Remote App

    Shut Down (not Restart) Mac

    Soft Reset iPad

Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake/Power button and the Home button together for about ten seconds. The Apple logo will appear, and the device should complete the soft reset.

    Start Up Mac

Launch Logic Pro X and create a new Project

    Launch Logic Remote

Look for confirmation dialog box on Mac

If the above doesn't work over WiFi..Turn off WiFi on your iPad and then try Bluetooth... repeating all steps above...

If Bluetooth works then this indicates a problem with your home Network/Router.... (Make sure both devices are on the exact same WiFi network) or Firewall.

I followed your steps exactly, doing it one time each for both wifi and bluetooth and it didn't change anything.

It's very strange because I can see logic from my iPad on both wifi and bluetooth, it just won't connect. If I close logic pro x then it disappears from the ipad, so I know they are communicating.

Btw, thanks for helping me out so far

...and you didn't get the dialog box on your Mac asking permission to connect?

If not, thats a clue as to why things are not working......

Did you ever see such a dialog box?

One other thing to try to discount any possible network issues is....

    https://brianli.com/using-logic-remote-with-a-local-ad-hoc-wi-fi-network/

Then connect the iPad to that network....

Note: I changed the link to one specifically for Logic Remote use

Hmmm, very strange. I'm getting the exact same issue happening with the adhoc network. I can see my iMac/Logic Pro X but I can't connect.

I followed all the instructions in that new link and ended up with the same result.

I've never had the pop up/dialog box that you mentioned. This is quite the enigma

I've never had the pop up/dialog box that you mentioned. This is quite the enigma

Well, whatever is preventing that dialog box appearing.. is why LR cannot connect to your mac because it will not do so until you give it permission..... via the dialog box that pops up on your Mac...

Something, somehow, is preventing it's appearance....

Single screen? if not, disconnect extra monitors and try again....

    Otherwise...

As to what that might be? No idea.. but it's certainly a clue .......

So.... Basic troubleshooting time... to see if anything is installed that could be conflicting with something...

    Please download Etrecheck from here...

    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

    ..and then launch Logic Pro

Now run Etrecheck and post up the full report here....

    Thanks...
