Q: How to arrange files in folders

I prefer working with lists by name or kind.  How can I format my icloud to do so?

If I understand you correctly, there is nothing different about the iCloud Drive window than any other window in Finder. Just click on the List View icon in the toolbar and you will see your iCloud Drive content in List View.

If you want it to always open that way, change it to List View, then Show View Options (cmd-j). Check the box to always open in List View.

Thanks for your prompt reply.  But, It doesn't help.  I'm not in a finder window; rather, in a Safari tab.  There is no "List View" option under views.  There is nothing I can find on the Icloud Drive page that addresses views or preferences.  It appears like any other web page.

So you're referring to accessing the files on www.icloud.com? I don't think you can format the files there. I don't know many folks who would try and manage their files via the browser. The current iCloud web interface isn't really designed for that, it seems.

There are no settings for the iCloud.com display. It is what it is.

You can see the same things in the iCloud Drive in the Finder if you have your iOS apps set to use iCloud in the Settings.

Think you are correct.  What I have learned is that folders and files are presented as icons, with labels, and are arranged alphabetically by name.  But, I needed to close a folder then reopen it to reorder by name.  Uploading files by drag and drop just put files at the beginning of the view.  Closing and reopening resulted in alphabetical list.

Ah, good info. Yes, the iCloud interface is very bare bones, and it displays as icons and sorts alphabetically for me. There's no way to change it that I know of, and I checked.

It would be nice if there were more options on the web, but I sorta think that Apple is figuring that people will use their Macs or their iOS devices as the primary interface to iCloud drive, and the web is just there in case you really need to access a document that's up there when you're away from your devices, and it's not intended to be a full-featured management interface.

Web pages don't work like applications.

Every change you make results in the page reloading. They could likely refresh the page when the upload completes, but that would likely be more confusing than leaving it at the beginning of the list. Since they are updating the upload status, it seems reasonable that it could reorder the page, or even put the icon in the right place to start with. Not sure, though.

    Send them feedback: http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html

    Thanks Guys!

You taught me something new: that I can view Icloud drive in the finder window like any other drive, change views, presentations, etc.  I will be exploring how to use this in Finder a lot more.  Appreciate All Ya'll.

Be careful with what you change.

I think the App folders must be frontmost and names the same or the iOS devices won't see them. iOS apps can only see into the folders they are designated to see.

Other than that, I'm not sure if there are any other things to be cautious about.
