Jan 23, 2015 6:13 PM in response to suz1suzby Tom Gewecke,IBA books can be read on any Mac running os x 10.9 or higher. For other computers you can export your .iba file to pdf, but pdf is not accepted by the ibookstore. Also you could recreate your book in Pages and export to .epub, which can be read on all platforms and put in the ibookstore.

Jan 25, 2015 4:35 AM in response to suz1suzby dunnery,There isn't any practical way of reproducing the iBooks author layout and files in any other format due to apples insistence on power grabbing. kindle has just released in the past few days a new service that will take any PDF and make an exact replica for all other formats, I would suggest you use this. Export as a PDFs from iBooks author and import the pdf into the new kindle program.

the reality is that Apple are making it very difficult to export to other formats on purpose as they have done since their inception. There could be one universal format that would make it very easy for us users but companies are too eager to power grab and try to get you into their system. The losers are the users. we sit in the background watching a fight that we aren't intersted in and which causes unnecessary difficulty with our production schedules and work.

I don't understand where you get "for all other formats". The web page you reference seems to say it converts various things into Kindle format, and the book can only be sold from the Kindle store.

Jan 25, 2015 5:36 AM in response to Tom Geweckeby dunnery, try getting a pdf from ibooks author to show up in kindle in any other way (graphics) and you'll see what I mean. how about quicktime v flash, logic v protools, power supplies, digital cables and a host of other specific brand gadgets and software. There is difficulty is cross platform sharing and always has been, not because there arent any easy practical solutions or universal formats ( html and pdf for instance), its because the corporations purposely make it that way for power purposes.
There are thousands of people right now, who are trying to release books and are having a tremendously difficult time getting their work to work on both formats. There is no decent practical information out there to educate the public, we are just left for days at a time to try and covert these files again and again hoping that one of them will work. They don't work. I have downloaded all the programs, read all the blogs, been on all the support forums. You either construct your book twice or you stay in one format. Kindle cant handle all the bells and whistles of ibooks author and ibooks author wont let you send their work to kindle. You can only sell their format on their service and they are definitely not interested in what the other has to offer.
The new kindle convertor will let you import any pdf and convert it to a format that kindle can handle WITH all the ibooks author layout.
but if you know something I dont then please please please share it so I can use it. Im one of those thousands of people who has been attempting a decent conversion to kindle for the past two weeks.

Jan 25, 2015 5:40 AM in response to dunneryby dunnery, and if im not mistaken.... you can export an epub file made in pages and open it in ibooks author BUT you cannot export an ibooks author file and open it in pages because god forbid, that would give you access to an epub file which you corectly stated can be read cross platform.

That's great if it meets your needs. I don't know whether suz1suz is among those looking for Kindle conversion, but if so that convertor may well be helpful.
I gather that conversion to pdf does not remove anything essential from your book? If so, I am curious why you chose iBA to produce it, since this app is mainly intended to produce special interactive effects which pdf can't support. Pages would produce the more versatile epub 3 directly, which can be sent to both the ibookstore and the kindle store and others.

Jan 25, 2015 12:42 PM in response to Tom Geweckeby dunnery,The reality is Tom that I am one of millions of people who aren't as tech savvy as you, if you look at my address Im level one and you are level 9. we arent all level 9! Most of us don't know what the **** is going on until we use the programs for months. Im a one man army with video, music and books and web. I dont specialize in anything.
I started my book in ibooks author because of apples marketing that said 'create amazing books on your laptop' or words to that effect. I dont know the difference between an epub and a pdf, between mobi and whatever else is out there. I bought a template online that was for ibooks author that looked amazing. I wasnt aware of all the cross platform issues with ibooks at that time, although in hindsight I should have known! I didnt even know you could have ibook templates for pages, i thought that was a word prosessor and ibooks author was specifically for making ibooks?
I dont need the bells and whistles of ibooks author for the book im writing now but I have completed it and it looks amazing. I love ibooks author. But now i am in the position where I need to do an audio book and a kindle version and the barnes and noble version ( whatever the **** that is?) and im struggling to find information that tells the truth.
I had the same problem formatting video. i spent around $500 on lessons from a very reputable guy ( i wont say who) who gave me all sorts of garbage about converting hi quality , high res quicktime videos into flash files. I went to great lengths to tell him what i wanted to do and he taught me a load of crap. ALL of the results looked dreadful in flash. What he should have said was "honestly, for what you need to do , you would be far better off signing up for vimeo because they do everything you need to do, without hassle and very very inexpensive for the service you get".
so here I am again trying to find the best way forward to get my ibooks author files into another format without losing all of the layout. So here is what i would say to you and anyone else reading this about converting ibooks author into other formats.
" if you have a book finished in ibooks author and want to export it to be used in kindle, then you should first export your ibook as a pdf. ibooks author will allow you to do this. This will make sure that your book retains all of its formatting in the pdf. It will look very similar to your ibooks author file although a little less quality. Once you have the pdf, you can then download amazons brand new text book app and that will allow you to convert your pdf to a format that kindle is very happy with. BUT you must understand that you will lose the ability to have a lot of the amazing effects in ibooks author like 3d graphs, links ( although you may be able to link within kindle. I havent tried yet) and the glossary. It actually doesnt matter about ibooks bells and whistles because kindle doesnt support all those things anyway. This is the easiest and most practical solution I have used to date."
and so I repeat Tom, if you have a better idea than that I am more than happy to hear it because then I can use it! But until you tell me what to do, I have to stick with my guns and say that I have the best solution for the level 1 guys out there who don't know what you know and don't have the time to find out. Please send me the correct solution that you use so we can all benefit from your knowledge. I'm simply doing what I know to be the best way, I haven't heard anything better yet....... from anyone.

Jan 25, 2015 12:53 PM in response to dunneryby jonathan157,Hi dunnery,
I have been following you very close as you are in the same position I am right now.
The only difference is that you are walking all the way I had already left behind.
So I can tell you how it is and can give you the answer you need to be done with this topic, at least by now.
Please, just in one line what is the most important for you about this conversion step you want to get.

Jan 25, 2015 1:05 PM in response to jonathan157by dunnery,hi jonathan, the most important thing is to have the book convert to kindle and keep as much of the formatting as i can. i have tried calibre and all of the other ideas and my book looks a complete mess when i preview it in kindle. i cant get my ibook to open in pages so i cant make a direct epub, and the method above is the only way that worked.... and even then it isnt right because kindle doesnt seem to work horizontally. so unless I completely reformat my book in word and upload that file straight to kindle, im not sure what else to do. If you have a solution, please feel free!

Jan 25, 2015 1:22 PM in response to dunneryby jonathan157,As i said I have the answer but it does not mean I have the solution.
There is no way to do that. Please do not waste your time as there is no a valid solution for this.
Also do not pay a single dollar to anyone who promises to give you a solution for this as it will be a trick.
All the work around ways people recommend are simple useless in cases like yours and mine.
Please consider my case, I am using iBA to make a lenguaje book with interactive practices and audio which works just fine on Mac and iPad.
I have used all the tips and posible combination of solutions but nothing can make posible to put audio and widgets on the Kindle, not even the Kindle Fire.
Int he cases of charts and stuffs like yours the result of conversion is a sacrifice of quality and format.
The conversion system of Amazon when you are submitting your book is really limited and it can not handle a rich format on a document.
After a year of investigation and try and error with some friends who are super tech savvy, programmers and even engineers the conclusion was the same:
Amazon and google need to improve the reception of formats so that the result of the conversion can be a better product.
Just for you to consider, when have you seen a very good book on kindle when it comes to the format?
Kindle is all about text, the additional you submit to the system will simply mutilated.
Right now we just have to wait for Amazon to make the Kindle format better.
I know other hundreds of amazon publishers waiting for that as the only wait to get the same results you want to get.

Jul 12, 2016 11:02 PM in response to dunneryby nukiwi,Did you ever get anywhere with your problem? I am tearing my hair out looking for a way to get a large, image heavy iBook with gallery widgets to convert to sell on Amazon, Barnes & Noble etc. A PDF is completely pointless. I would be happy to copy and paste each page (147) individually, including the widgets and galleries, if I thought it would work but I haven't seen a way yet.
