It sounds like an app, possibly Safari or Mail, is quitting unexpectedly on your iPad. Take a look at the article linked below and try the general troubleshooting steps that it suggests.
If an app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open - Apple Support
Restart the app
Close the app and open it again.
Restart your device
If the issue persists, you can try to rule out a software issue by restoring the device as shown in this article:
