Q: Why do I have to update the remote desktop if I never use it

I have this update/install now? sitting in my software updates. It's for REMOTE DESKTOP CLIENT UPDATE. I will NEVER use REMOTE DESKTOP CLIENT UPDATE. Why do I have to install it to make it go away?

Mac mini (Late 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), Actually 10.10.2

You don't have to install it.

What is Remote Desktop Client Update v 3.8.2

About Remote Desktop Admin 3.8 - Apple Support

It wants to install because it is an updates for "clients", not just the person using the Remote desktop app.

Saw the other thread and though "It's just something that comes with Yosemite..." is not an acceptable answer, I understand why it's there. I'll try to hide it. Who would be the 'clients' using my system or needing this in regards to the other part of your answer?

Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) Client is used for screen sharing.

It is also used by administrators of companies that have the "server" version of Apple Remote Desktop.  They use it to remotely maintain and support the OSX computers in their charge. The ARD client can share information to the system administrator about your system to maintain it.

    With that said:

If you are using an OSX earlier than Yosemite, you do not want to make the upgrade to ARD client 3.8 (v 1.1) because it breaks screen sharing.

If you have OSX Yosemite, you can go ahead and make the upgrade and you will not notice any change.
