Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

Tom

    This is Apple... now.

Last one I purchase. Looking forward to my monthly allowance being renewed so I can download Korora. I can live without a webcam. Hopefully that'll be the only thing not to function.

Installed Yosemite 10.10.2 which did NOT solve the problem despite the purported claim of Apple. This is frustrating as the wifi connections drop so frequently sometimes that my mac becomes unusable. I've been patiently waiting for a fix for several months now and I've started questioning the competency of the Yosemite developers. And this, despite having full control over the hardware.

Say what you will of Microsoft developers but such a critical bug would never have survived as long in Windows. And this besides the fact that Windows must work with thousands of different wireless cards and countless permutations of different devices and components.

Sorry for the rant but I'm really at a loss about what needs to be done to get Apple to fix this issue once and for all.

I also installed 10.10.2 and that did NOT fix the wifi issue.

    Big problems with D-Link DAP-2553.

after the update yesterday evening I got big improvements in Wi-Fi. But today everything is the Same again.

Got an iMac 21,5" late 2013 and a D-Link router. I just can't understand How can this been after this big Update.

    Same here too

Updated to latest 'fix' - upon return from sleep, it initially appears to be connected. As soon as I try to use the internet, the wifi icon starts cycling through the searching for networks, and just sits there.  The only 'fix' is to turn off wifi, then turn it back on, upon which point it again cycles through the searching phase, followed by the exclamation point on the wifi icon, and finally connects.

Come on Apple - how hard can it be? It worked fine in Mavericks! Can't you just roll the whole wifi module back to that version until you can fix it properly?

edit: using the Apple Airport Extreme

Same thing here. It's been over three months now, doing things on my mbp takes twice the amount of time they used to, if I can do these things at all.

This laptop is my main tool for work. Should I charge Apple for the time I'm wasting? Should we just all sue them to be taken seriously?

    Same thing here.

After 10 minutes of good internet speed everything went back to the continuos disconnections and super slow speeds.

I'm a Mac user only since mid 2013 and wasn't sure about spending around 2K euros on a machine that promised to run flawlessly and make the user experience smoother than the windows one. Well, as of today seems like it was only that, a "promise" that only lasted during the time I was running the previos Mavericks.

This is not only annoying because you spend some extra money expecting that promised value added, it's a bit more when your job or duties get affected because your laptop is not able to do something as basic as keep connectivity with the Internet.

It's amazing that going back to Mavericks is the only option at the moment after so long since the Yosemite was released.

Well I partially solved my problem (I hope so) by DISABLING the Handoff on my iMac and then reboot. Streaming Spotify since 4 hours now Just try it!

    Yeah, 10.10.2 is totally broken.

Got it confirmed by a Apple Technician

I don't have any. He just told me that he had the same problem on his machine (wifi is dead on most networks) and he will escalate it.

Please don’t. Your posts have become such great entertainment and we would hate to see you leave. Fedora, Korora, Sayönara?

10.10.2 did seem to improve my Wifi problems, but did not fix them completely. If I have 3-4 hours spare, I will genuinely consider downgrading (upgrading?) to Mavericks. This is turning into a bit of a joke really.
