Q: iPhone 6 not counting flights of stairs

Isn't iPhone6 meant to track flight of stairs climbed? Health app showing steps but not flights. Anyone else noticed this ?

I also have noted that 'landings' don't matter, as long as you don't stop too long on the landing; as long as you keeping walking, it treats the landing as part of the stair climb.  And, yes, it only notes "climbing" up; it does not 'credit' for going down stairs.  (So you can walk up the stairs and take the elevator/escalator down, if available ... <grin>).

re: "one flight" = ~12 ft

If you really would like to get 'credit' for climbing a 10 ft stairways (e.g. many homes), you can trick the phone into the "extra" height needed to have it "register" as a flight of steps climbed by:

-- holding phone at your side as you climb the stairs

-- when at the top, slowly raise the phone as you take another 6-8 steps until it is overhead.  Keep it there for a few more steps.  I found that is enough additional "height" to consistently 'register' in the health app as having climbed a flight of stairs.

That seems to confirm that a "flight climbed" is ~12 vertical increase while walking.

Even the same problem was with my iPhone 6 plus, but got it's solution.

FIrst, Download Barometer app from APP Store and use it if it is working or not by testing it by climbing up and down.

Second, open Health and again climb some more stair.

Third, Click that my solution worked for you, because Is am quite confident that it will be working.

                                                                                                               Thank You.

Test the barometer by placing the phone in a clear airtight  plastic bag. Change the pressure on the phone by squeezing the bag thus increasing the pressure and releasing the bag thus decreasing the pressure. Watch for a change in the app. I did this and now I am convinced the Healthkit app is not recording the readings from the barometer correctly. This is a software issue. not a hardware issue.

My 6 plus had been recording Flights Climbed fairly accurately until 2/15/15.  My regular jogging route includes approximately 22 flights of stairs.  It recorded this data accurately on the 2/15, but I have had to manually enter the data since then.  On a side note, the Health app also stopped receiving Active Calories data from MapMyWorkout as of 2/18/15.  It had been updating it accurately until then.

Thanks for sharing this info. You are absolutely correct. This is why my iPhone 5S is unable to track this metric.

I seem to be having the opposite problem as everyone else, mine is recording flights of stairs that I'm not taking. A few days ago it said I had climbed 6 flights between 5 pm and 10 pm. I was at work during that period of time and there are no stairs at my job location. It also says that I climbed 16 a few weeks ago (4 within 2 minutes) when I definitely climbed no more than 6.

Apple lives in their own world.  They consider a flight of stairs 16 steps.  The average flight contains 12 steps.  So the average flight does not get registered as a flight of steps in the Health app etc.

Not working! The app show the barometer works but there is still no data shown in health data and dashboard.

I'm wondering why apple doesn't care the quality of this interesting app since the problem happened so long time ago. Funny enough, I find that the flight climbing of the health data app works in my old i6 but not in the new i6+. Can't believe this would happen!

Same here.  I find if i switch my phone off it won't count flights climbed again.

A reboot normally 'fixes/resets' it and it will start counting again.
