Q: 27" iMac 3TB drive manufacturer

Does anyone know which hard drive manufacture Apple uses for their 3TB Fusion drives in their iMacs?  I'm considering a 3TB Fusion drive in my next iMac but have seen reports that Seagate's 3TB drives have a high failure ratecompared to HGST (formerly Hitachi).  I know Apple has used Hitachi in the past but don't know what they're using in their current Macs.

Thanks

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10), 32GB

There are a handful of things others have missed, as well.

Make sure you have updated ALL your installed software and ALL connected device software and drivers.

Update all of your Web Browser Internet plugins and extensions.

    You use CrashPlan.

You need to adjust CrashPlan's settings so CrashPlan  is NOT trying to constantly create small backups while you are actually trying to do  work on your Mac.

Have CrashPlan initiate your system backups during times of prolonged inactivity on your Mac.

CrashPlan maybe another item that is slowing your Mac.

    Also,

Ditch ALL Googlewares. They are ALL a serious resource hogs on the OS X system.

If you do not like Apple's Safari web browser, download, install and try Mozilla FireFox, instead.

The current, up-to-date version of FireFox is fully compatible with OS X and is regularly updated by the great developers of the Mozilla group.

I have, also, stopped using the Google search engine regularly (due to Google's privacy policies or lack thereof) and I now use DuckDuckGo as my default search engine.

Another thing that is impacting system performance is you have waaaay too many user startup/login apps launching at once and running in the background eating up precious OS X resources.

You need to really pare this list waaaaay down to around six items or less.

    Add or remove automatic items

    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
    2. Select your user account, then click Login Items.
    3. Do one of the following:
      • Click Add below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
      • Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete below the list on the right.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.  I was able to clean up a lot of old files and extensions.  Regained about 20GB of hard drive space.  Hopefully that will resolve the problems I was having.  So far it's running great and seems to boot up a little faster.  Time will tell as the symptoms don't appear for 2-4 weeks after reinstalling Yosemite.

Not only is VirtualBox still loading its extension, it's several versions out of date and is not compatible with Yosemite or Mavericks.

    I would remove it properly

That's an old report, VB has been removed since then.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions.  As result I was able to clean up my system and delete a lot of old useless file.  Unfortunately it didn't help my situation.  It turns out that the culprit was a failing HDD.  Console was showing I/O errors immediately after any stalls that I was experiencing.  I downloaded DriveDX for a more thorough report (Disk Utility wasn't showing any errors) and it showed nearly 467 reallocated sectors, over 250 uncorrectable sectors and over 2000 I/O errors a day!  I replaced the HDD with a 2 TB Toshiba yesterday and all is well.  Again, thank you all for you feed back.  This discussion was an education for me.
