Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

PLease specify router/access-point brand and make.

i Believe the engineers needs this to reproduce the issues we are suggering from.

I'm on a newly bought MBP (last month). I noticed no problems on 10.10.1, now I upgraded to 10.10.2 and Bluetooth interferes with downstream wifi traffic. I am not reaching 0.5Mbps with Bluetooth on, and just by switching it off it gets above 10Mbps.

    I am not amused.

    This worked for me...

Go to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ and find mDNSresponder and mDNSresponderhelper and trash both of them. These files were left over from OS X 10.9

I upgraded to the latest and now cannot access the repair disk. Gone. Poof. Disappeared. Remember when winders upgrades were called betaware? Guess what. Now Apple plays that game. Shame on you!!!

Somehow this whole thing reminds me of "traffic shaping" or QoS getting out of control when the BT gets activated...

Now that you mention Quality of Service, and

also confirm that the upstream data traffic does not seem to be effected by BT activation/connection, but only the downstream

you may want to investigate the relation between Ethernet AVS and Broadcom WLan chips. Ethernet AVS is the new kid on the block, and relies heavily on Qos!

Ethernet AVS is meant a.o. for streaming AudioVisual content, and this may explain the integrity of the upstream link being maintained at all cost, thus (partially) incapacitating the downstream link. And the WLan chip handles BlueTooth as well. Putting 2 and 2 together?

    http://websearch.broadcom.com/search?q=AC+Wlan&search.x=0&search.y=0&search=sear ch

Could Anybody on this forum having WiFi issues confirm having something else than a Broadcom AC WLan WiFi/BT chip in their Mac (See System Profiler)?

There might be a generic issue with a range of these chips coming to light in combination with updating to Yosemite, as we have seen in the past with some GPU chips revealing themselves as broken only after an OSX upgrade. Thank you!

Either you are right, or you have just thrashed a lot of services. You could park both files on the desktop, though. Mark their original location well and make sure you have a good backup. Restart, and see if it works for you. If not, restore. Good Luck.

I heard about the Wi-Fi issue and after installing Yosemite on 2 of my 3 iMacs I thought I was bulletproof. I wasn't that lucky with number 3 ... no wireless after the install. I tried everything ... and no go. And then I tried doing the following:

    1. Open Network Preferences

    2. Hilite "Wi-Fi" in the pane on the left side. If it's off leave it off. If it's on, turn it off.

    3. Hit the "minus" symbol at the bottom of the pane. This will remove your Wi-Fi interface/preferences.

    4. Hit the "apply" button in the bottom right hand corner of the window.

    5. Hit the "plus" symbol at the bottom of the pane, and find and select the "Wi-Fi" interface in the pull-down menu and press the "Create" button. It's sort of a fresh re-installation of Wi-Fi in your Network Preferences.

    6. Hit the "apply" button in the bottom right hand corner of the window.

    7. Close the Network Preferences window.

    8. Go up to the top of the screen in the control bar and try turning on your Wi-Fi, and see if you are able to browse.

Not sayin' that it will work for everybody, but it got my third iMac up and going. From what I've read there also could be router issues that affect connectivity, so I'll have to keep my good eye peeled on that too.

My apologies if this has been posted or tried before!

I have the WiFi / Bluetooth interference problem as reported before.

My System Information reports the following:

    en0:

Card Type: AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0x134)

      Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (7.15.159.13.12)

Sorry, cannot edit the post anymore after 15 minutes. But Ethernet AVS should read Ethernet AVB (Audio Video Bridging) in that post.

And about hardware flaws coming to light after an OSX upgrade, here's an example:

Thank you for posting those specifics, Ikester. Extra point of interest is: which Mac are you running?

Those 3 specifics could surely help in profiling the issue!

Instead of an Etrecheck report, this profiling shortcut could be used by everybody complaining in this thread as an underscript to each post.

This is a MacBook Pro Retina 15" from late 2013, but I see the same problems on a MBP Retina 15" late 2012. I don't have it handy right now but I'll try to get the WiFi chip version on that one next time.

I still believe it has something to do with the new network changes (stack/drivers) to support all the *Handoff* stuff and replace mDNSresponder. In my case it is reproducible 100% of the time when turing on Bluetooth. I wish we could have a switch to revert back to the Mavericks stack, which was pretty solid on these machines.

Reverting to the Mavericks WiFi and Bluetooth stack can probably be done by some. But not by me, not much of a hacker. That is why so many are just simply reverting to Mavericks...

And it is a sad trip to have to make a H-ackintosh out of your own dearly paid for Mackintosh anyway...

I'LL BE, JOHN BROWN!!!! 10.10.2 is has been working brilliantly for several hours. No more Software Map dumping in the trash and Wi-Fi pops right up upon desktop loading and awake from sleep. Mail is working fine. Safari is working fine. Monitored Wi-Fi during You Tube videos, downloads and video clips. 325 to 450 Mbps on my Linksys N750 just as advertised. I'm giving it a few days of monitoring. Finally making progress. I think we'll all take just a little progress now. 10.10.2 is stand alone on my external HD for the time being. This is a milestone.
