Update: I spoke with customer service and they recommended backing up and restoring the iPhone. The mic works when recording video, but just not when the speaker is required during a phone call (without ear piece or Bluetooth). I think it's gonna be a replacement job!

I had the same problem so I came here to find a solution and I sure did. Like @Sequoiandandelion mentioned, there's a microphone between the flash & camera at the back. I still had the plastic from the back, once I cut that section off I was able to get sound on my recordings! I suggest you all give that a try if you still have the plastic on the back

I am not sure if it is happening to you and others but i noticed one thing today. When i call with my speaker on, the mic and speakers get interchanged. Maybe that is the case with you also. On Speaker phone, mic is at the top and speaker sound comes from bottom of the phone. Since mic is at the top and we have the tendency to speak into the bottom of the phone, the other person can't hear it properly. Try speaking with your mouth closer to the top of the phone.

I am very ****** off too at this.

From my side, in France, the device has been replaced by Apple after 2 roundtrips to a "support center"...

yeah..right now i have the exact problem as you. Everytime i made a call or someone called me, they claimed to not hear me at all..they told me it was like i am a wind tunnel where the wind is blowing very hard. But then, when i call someone through facebook or skype, they can hear me without problems. VERY WEIRD!!! I just the phone 6+ last Thursday (18 dec 2014).

For those where the plastic trick didn't work are probably getting very annoyed as I did that nobody is giving any answers that seem to work. I decided to go through all my settings and then I thought back to the first time it stopped working. I had updated from iOS 8 to 8.1 and then I synced a new bluetooth device that doesn't have a microphone built in and from that moment onwards Siri, Dictation, Voice Recorder and a few other third party apps stopped working with one of the phones built in microphones.

Here's what I did to get the speakerphone working

    Turn Off Siri First.

Go into the settings app... General.... Siri and make sure you first turn off "Allow Hey Siri" then turn off Siri completely.

Then go into Accessibility under general and turn off "phone noise cancelation" and scroll down further and choose "headset" option under "Call Audio Routing" when answering or making a call choose speakerphone as usual and it should work perfectly.

You shouldn't have to power down the phone before it works.

I couldn't figure out a way to bring Siri or dictation back but hopefully this will work with others to at least get speakerphone back until Apple can come out with a bug fix for this in a later update.

I would check the noise cancellation mic located to the left of the camera lens. Make sure that it is free and clear of any dust collection or debris. I have found that if it has dust or debris it will significantly diminish speaker volume especially during FaceTime or speakerphone calls.

I wish you the best of luck.

Sorry to hear that you've had a few accidents with your phone-definitely not a fun place to be.

With regards to your issues, I would recommend performing a settings reset to see if you can restore functionality to your device. You can do this by going to

    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

Otherwise you may contact AppleCare or set up a Genius Bar Appointment by going to http://www.apple.com/retail, enter your zip code, and set an appointment to have your device repaired. Please keep in mind if you are not covered with AppleCare or a carrier insurance plan your device will be evaluated and the accidental damage would deem it to be out of warranty in which repair fees would apply

Try turning off bluetooth.  I was listening to a bluetooth speaker, walked out of range, had problems with mic and speaker.

Turning off blue tooth fixed mine. Just turned it off and mic worked. Not really a solution considering I will have to always turn on Blue tooth manually.
