Also, if Verizon is charging you for Premium Visual Voice Mail (which according to their website is currently the only one that offers voice to text) you should contact them for a refund as the "Check Device Compatibility" link at their http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/consumer/products/visual-voicemail.html shows that only 16 phones are supported and the iPhone is not one of them.
If you decide to switch phones, you may also want to consider that feature from Verizon only transcribes the first 45 seconds of a voicemail.
