Jan 25, 2015 11:55 AM in response to zinnjdby VSwaves,Actually when I tried turning it off after it worked, it stuck on again like it was! And while it was working perfectly my battery drained a lot faster. Now it's ok, it's stuck in "please plug the power " or whatever and it's not draining my battery! That's a ridiculous problem. Apple WHERE THE **** ARE YOU?!

Jan 25, 2015 9:34 PM in response to zinnjdby csbyjw,Today I purchased a new rMBP (MacBook Pro - Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) and I am having the same issue with FileVault. Not a great experience. Apple - where is the solution to this?

Jan 28, 2015 11:57 AM in response to zinnjdby Andy9d9,I can't actually believe this nonsense. Just bought a brand new MBP retina 15" to be faced with this problem! Apple really need to get their act together. It would seem people have been reporting this for over six months??? I'm taking this back to the store and making it their problem.

Jan 28, 2015 12:30 PM in response to Andy9d9by alfatek,10.10.2 and still the same problem. God damm, just got a mac for christmas and apple is not convincing me....
Tried the same instructions but without luck. One time it worked and the encryption continued but then my gf tripped the power cable and back to encryption paused... forever....
I just want to force disable filevault and be done with it!
Dear Apple, please fix this, it should be just a retry or force retry...

Jan 31, 2015 2:10 AM in response to ninedragonby Hjelmis,Thanks!
This solved my problem.: http://www.macissues.com/2014/12/16/fix-your-mac-stuck-on-encrypting-with-fileva ult/
After following this instruction Filevault finished the encryption and I can finally use Bootcamp to install Windows 7 accessed from VmWare Fusion.

Jan 31, 2015 5:55 AM in response to Hjelmisby KJ1864,The site at this link fixed my problem as well...thanks Hjelmis! In particular, "Marisa" added steps on Dec 30th that enabled me to do a complete wipe (deleting the group number using "diskutil command, then renaming the partition in the Disk Utility, then reloading the OS.) This took me back to the fresh install state where FileVault was not enabled and my system now functions fine.

Jan 31, 2015 6:40 AM in response to zinnjdby Ian Toll,I'm having a similar problem -- I'm not getting the "encryption paused" message, but it's been stuck with the progress bar about two-thirds of the way across (with the words "Estimated time remaining..." underneath it) since I updated OS X on Thursday evening. Every so often the progress bar will zip across as though it's finished but immediately go back to the same place again. I've tried restarting but this doesn't do anything. Meanwhile, my system has slowed to a crawl and stalls frequently. Any thoughts?

Jan 31, 2015 6:46 AM in response to KJ1864by ardana_robin,Brand new iMac (i.e. desktop not laptop). Faultvault paused on encrypting because it's waiting for a power supply and has been stuck in this state from day one of receiving my iMac and never got unstuck since. I'm uncertain why it thinks it doesn't have a power supply since it must be plugged into the AC to even run and doesn't have a battery!
I tried repairing both the logical and logical partition group (as per above article) and nothing worked to resolve this issue.
This is extremely disappointing to be waiting this long to fix an out-of-the-box experienced problem. Clearly only a patch to the OS is going to resolve this issue.

Jan 31, 2015 6:51 AM in response to ardana_robinby Paul Hammant,Ardana - just take it into the apple store and report it as defective. We got ours replaces .. you've 30 days to do that.
-
Jan 31, 2015 6:55 AM in response to Paul Hammantby ardana_robin,Thanks Paul - but I ordered online and it's all setup and configured which took a lot of time. To return it as defective would mean I'm out of a work machine for an unspecified period of time and there's no guarantee a new machine wouldn't experience exactly the same trouble given this appears to be a software glitch.

Jan 31, 2015 8:10 AM in response to ardana_robinby NigleB,Same, brand new MacBook Air out of the box stuck on encryption paused. It can detect that the AC adapter is connected because the "connect power" message goes away when it's plugged in, but it never finishes. The worst part is that the progress bar is full...so it almost got there before this bug took hold.
Apple please fix this!
