Q: Best way to prepare iPhoto 8.1.2 for OS upgrade
I have an iMac (purchased 2010) still running OSX 10.6.8 and I have iPhoto ‘09 Version 8.1.2. My library contains 18,000 pictures and is 41 GB. I’ve scanned lots of old slides and I don’t want to lose all my labeling of photos. I have Time Machine doing automatic backups. And I also have an additional external hard drive to which I could copy my iPhoto Library.
I need to load some income tax software but my operating system is too old. I need to upgrade, but I’ve read enough to be scared of the possible consequences to iPhoto.
I am so reluctant to upgrade to Yosemite at this point that I am considering Mountain Lion, which is still available from Apple.
Will iPhoto 8.1.2 work with Mountain Lion?
What steps can I take before upgrading the OS to ensure I have a smooth transition and can recover from any problems encountered?
What will I need to do in iPhoto after upgrading the operating system?
I need very clear and specific instructions since my understanding of how all this works is very tenuous. Thanks so much!
