Q: Your bootable USB drive could not be created

I've read all the previous threads about this problem.  I am using Yosemite 10.10.2 and have created an iso file from a MS WIndows 7 Ultimate SP1 X64  DVD I bought from Amazon.  I have followed the instructions for Boot Camp found in the pdf file from Apple and the Boot Camp Help file.  I have successfully created two iso files since I was not sure the first one was a good image, although it checked out using Get Info.  What do I need to do to get Boot Camp Assistant to work?

Any ideas are welcome.  Thanks

The issue is that the DVD has both 32-bit and 64-bit on the same media. It needs an ISO which has one or the either, but not both.

Can you find media which has individual 32-bit and 64-bit installers and support files on separate physical media? My W8.1 has two separate DVDs, one for each installation.

That's good news!  I will work at try to create the 64-bit ISO from my current DVD.  I also have two Windows laptops, one running 7 SP1 and one running 8.1.  So I may be able to use one of those machines to create the ISO I need.

Thanks much for your patience and stamina working through my problem.

I have to feed my pets and wall them, so after my evening meal I will set to work at creating the needed ISO file.

I'll let you know how it goes.

    Best regards

LOL.  Will skip the wall for a walk.

It looks like it's going to work!  I found a Win 7 64-bt ISO file on the internet; and right now I am watching Boot Camp Assistant doing the creation process.

I will post another reply when the process completes and I have a working Boot Camp partition, etc.

Again many thanks for sharing your expertise, and your persistence in helping me solve my problem.

Please make sure the Win7-64-bit is genuine, otherwise you will end up with malware/viruses. You may be able to get a valid ISO from Microsoft using your Product Key.

Not so fast I guess.  When it got to the part about picking a partition to install Windows it gave me an error message when I chose the Boot Camp partitions that had just been created.  It said the partition needed to be NTFS and I could not figure out how to go any further.  This does not make sense to me since the instructions from the Boot Camp Assistant said MS-DOS Fat32 for the format.

So I am giving up on these downloaded ISO files, and also trying to use the DVD I bought with both 32 and 64 bit versions that doesn't work.

Not sure why I was able to create Boot Camp partitions and install Windows 7 on an older iMac 27" and a MacBook Air without ANY problems?

I guess the latest version of Boot Camp and/or Yosemite are not so friendly as the ones I used a couple years ago.

This is not an error. This is expected behavior. OS X has no mechanism to create a NTFS partition, so it creates a FAT partition, which the Windows Installer will prompt you to convert to NTFS.

Thanks for that info.  I will give this onerous and much too difficult process a rest.  I have other pressing things that are more likely to return a positive result to attend to.  AND it's Super Bowl Sunday!

Maybe I will come back to it tomorrow?

Again thanks much for your support.

I am happy to report that I now have a working Boot Camp partition with Windows installed on my second iMac 27"

Thanks much to Loner T for hanging in there and helping me past my mistakes and educating me on how to perform the installation.

I greatly appreciate the help and time spent working through the process with me.

    Best regards

    Hey,

I am having the same problem. I searched many forums and tried everything suggested but nothing helped. So I hope someone here can help me! I can't get Windows on my USB and the MacBook is just telling me that the bootable USB drive could not be created..

    Here is what I have:

    MacBook Pro 2012, Yosemite

Windows 7 as an ISO file download, not mounted, 3,27GB

    I tried:

    Restart

    Different USB (2 and 3) MS-DOS FAT32

Running bootcamp with ticking/unticking the boxes in all possible combinations and with an USB with Windows (per drag/drop).

I hope someone here can help me with this!

What is the year/model of your Mac? Where did the W7 ISO come from?

It is a MacBook Pro 13inch from 2012. I bought the licence for W7 legally in the internet, though not from the official windows website. And it is the 64 bit version.
