Q: Time Machine causing Kernel Panics

Hello,

A few days ago, I started to have kernel panics with Time Machine.  This seems to have started since I upgraded to OS X 10.10.2.

I can reliably reproduce the issue by doing the following:

Turn Time Machine "ON" in the system control panel and then force a backup.

Time Machine starts, says that it is preparing the backup, at some point the screen freezes and I get the grey screen of multilingual kernel panics.

I removed all kext extensions from the system, rebooted: no effect.  I also re-install MacOS X (through the recovery volume) same thing.  This also occurs in Safe Mode.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Stefan

Here what I get from the console messages at the time just before the kernel panic occurs:

2015-01-31 14:58:18,000 kernel[0]: hfs: mounted Copies de sauvegarde Time machine on device disk2s2

2015-01-31 15:00:04,000 kernel[0]: Security policy loaded: Safety net for Time Machine (TMSafetyNet)

And here is the panic report (I did not get a crash report)

I'm having the same problem as well, whenever Time Machine tries to run, it causes a kernel panic while trying to prepare backup to my wireless connected NAS drive. Issue only started occurring after installing Yosemite 10.10.2 last week as well

So far I have tried the following:

    1. Re-Installed Mac OS X from the recovery drive
    2. Remove third party kext
    3. Turned Off Time Capsule and back on
    4. Removed plist files

Between each of these tests I tried to start a backup and kernel panic each time.  It takes some time before the kernel panic occurs; time machine is in the prepare backup stage and at some point:

2015-02-05 20:06:23,000 kernel[0]: Security policy loaded: Safety net for Time Machine (TMSafetyNet)

    And crash.

Still have not gone through all the steps proposed by the link given by Leopardus.  I will continue posting my progress.

It's been awhile since I was able to get around to fiddling with my Time Capsule.

I did a brute force attack on my Time Capsule: I just erased the Time Capsule disk with the Airport Utility and restarted the back ups.

This solved my ability to perform backups at the expense of losing all my former backups. :-/

I took my Macbook to the Apple Store for their input on this problem. It's been resolved by carrying out the same steps as recommended by a genius

Deleting the existing backups, removing the disc being used for Time Machine, and then setting up Time Machine on that disc again.

Once I did that, I haven't seen this problem appear again
